Anyone else buying into the new "BattleTech" and MechWarrior 5?

By Karneck, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

Die hard 3025 fan here - since the 80s.

I just had my old, defunct gaming PC salvaged and upgraded with Lostech in anticipation for the new BT and MW5. Based on my limited experience with the backers' beta last year, this will be the best thing since MechCommander.

I first played Mechwarrior 3, unless you count the Sega game. Last I p!ayed was Mechwarrior4:Mercs. I absolutely loved Solaris 7, I never really did much with the story once that opened up, lol!

I started with the franchise with the astounding Mechwarrior 2, long before I knew the tabletop game even existed, and I was instantly hooked. I've played all the Mechwarrior titles and most of the others besides, but I've never had the chance to play tabletop - a failing I fervently wish to correct posthaste

I am looking forward to the physical attacks side on the PC.

... my preferred BattleMech of almost 30 years is easily the 2nd or 3rd most inefficient Mech in the game without them, but an interesting choice when you do...

The punching animations just look so weighty, it's great

I'm still saddened that two of my favorite 'mechs (from my favorite era, no less - the Succession Wars was just more interesting than later settings) aren't in the game due to the actions of those miserable nerf-herders over at Harmony Gold. I know that the models and at least the lion's share of the animation and textures for the Warhammer and Marauder are done and ready to go, so I am holding out hope that this latest lawsuit foolishness can be dealt with and I can put together a proper heavy lance

CGR? :D

The -SB subtype is not so bad :P

EDIT: I mean, it's either that or the basic Shadow Hawk...

Man, I wish I could have played the stupid complex table top game from way back when. But I wasn't born at the time -_-

I grew up with the clan content. Daishi is hands down the greatest mech.

Close.

BNC-3M

Steiner Loyalist.... Captured Marik Ride :)

BNC-3M

Ouch .

No kidding it's "inefficient".

Even the CCG card was... awkward. <--- EDIT: Wait, I'm thinking of the -3E:

I don't care so much about graphics for MW5, I just want good gameplay and capable of supporting multiplayer options, and co-op...

The 3E was undergunned with PPC, AC5 and Small Laser in the head.

The 3M trades out the AC5 and Ammo for another PPC and 2 Medium Lasers...

... the problem was it didn’t add any heat sinks... so it was capable of generating almost 30 heat at full tilt with 10 dissipation....

.... But it was a 95 tonner thst could go 4/6.... That was a heck of a shoulder charge at full tilt.

A lot of those older mechs were pretty poorly sinked, though I maintain that only adds to thier character. The MAD-3R wouldn't have been as interesting if it could just constantly fire everything every turn

Yeah, I remember the variant... almost as much of a coffee pot as the 2xPPC, 2xLL Rifleman :D

The worst 'mechs were the best .

So much more fun to play Shadow Hawks and Vulcans and Chargers than, say, WHM-6Ds or BNC-3Ss or Swaybacks or other... sensible designs.

Yep, absolute deathtraps. I love them ALL.

Hey now, don't be saying bad things about my mechwaifu Warhammer - even though I have much more of a soft spot for the 6K

That’s why I loved 3025/26 so much... or even just IStech in general...

The moment you got Clan Doubles, things were just... urgh.

Look, don't get me wrong. The 6D was my 'mech of choice for tournament play. It's the command 'mech in my (100+ unit) ComGuards division - I even removed the SRM mount to reflect the variant.

...but it's so good it's boring .

Indeed. The IS/3025 mechs represent what you would get when the government acquires a mech by RFP and lowest bidder.

My favorite Mech is the Penetrator PTR-4D. There's no way in **** this will be in the game. I was hoping that the Grasshopper GHR-5N would be in the game but unfortunately I'm now thinking it wasn't introduced until the 3030s or 3040s so now I'm just hoping the Black Knight BL-7-KNT or Flashman FLS-7K will be in it.

Most likely GRH-5H, BL-6-KNT and FLS-8K, as those were the 3025 variants.

But of course, if there is modifications and prototype/advanced tech at points, you can probably rebuild them to semi comparable.

The Grasshopper will be in the game. The Black Knight is a possibility, but unconfirmed.

As long as Battletech game contains ZERO clan stuff, I'm willing to try it.

It's not that the Clans are so bad in and of themselves, but their introduction completely ruined the medieval lost-tech vibes the setting originally had.

That's what expansions are for.

As long as there are options to host game with restrictions, should work out ok i feel.

My favorite in MW4: Mercs was the Uziel, with 2x ER PPCs for Solaris fighting. I used it like a sniper, firing both at the same time and chuckling as my computer yelled "Overheating!" with every single shot I made. But man, it was great for sniping legs.
