Sorry, but not sorry.
Things are being written, or so I hear.

Great article, Biggs.
Armada is the only miniature game I have ever played and the "Chess" like strategy that goes into it is why I love it. I don't have the time to really be part of a local community, everything is at least 45 minutes away and family obligations so I can't speak to how many people are playing in my "Area", but I'm beginning to think that the "Something Big" could be the beginning of the end for Armada. I don't think the new trilogy stuff lend themselves to the game, they are just too big, and Disney seems to want to forget the prequels even existed. The cannon pool to pull from for Armada is drying up too quickly. I will keep my stuff and play the game forever because I love the depth of it, but I am worried about the future of development/releases.

NotLikeThis.
I just bought into Armada as my first ever tabeltop/miniatures game, the mixture of hope and 'jump ship' from people of this forum is polarising, to say the least. But I'm beginning to understand why people value the security (In the form of almost guaranteed support) offered by other publishers i.e GW. In this sense, I think that is why some people are jumping into Legion, because it is new and and secure (outside of the obvious reasons).
I really hope FFG continue to support Armada, and I am pretty sure they will; I mean, there is a galaxy filled with content for them to explore and likely alot of money left on the table. I disagree regarding the lack of canon content, there is more being added almost monthly now, and also Legends stuff (See Garm). But it is really weird, as someone just coming into this area, to see so little communication. I really do think the issue here is communication. Even if there was some sort of developmental roadmap, or expansion release schedule it would greatly alleviate alot of the concern experienced by most people. It might also encourage people not to cannibalise Armada in favour of another (i.e Legion). eBay, for example is currently filled with Core Sets, collections, expansions etc. And when I started (just before Chimaera) there was hardly anything except upgrade cards. I have always been a gamer (Console and PC) and for something that costs £80+ just to start (atleast £150 ideally) it is really hard to swallow when there are a plethora of other safe, and interesting options.
"Let's see how much longer we can keep it rolling." This isn't really what this should be about though, is it? In my mind I have a vision of a dung beetle rolling around a pile of poo. I suppose whatever is valuable to the beetle..

Legion hasn't really made an impact here, X-wing and Armada are still going strong and attracting new players. I think legion requires a store space suitable for Warhammer where around here most FFG games are played at primarily card game stores. Armada and X-wing are easy enough to set up and don't require storing detailed tables, terrain etc. A lot of people I play FFG games with are also former Warhammer players, and are just not interested in buying and painting another army. I would think Legion would appeal to the GW crowd, but those guys are already committed to their own game.
Pretty much what Kristjan said. Around me, it seems like primarily disgruntled 40kers jumping ship. Legion is certainly selling strong, but unlike Biggs's area, the NOVA area Armada scene is expanding alongside it. It's a pretty awesome time to be a Star Wars mini player around here.

Don't worry. Since I am here people are fearing Armada is dead. Every time a new game is pushed by FFG the community freaks out and fears the end of all days is near, merely because a well established game gets less attention by FFG than the new not so well established game (remember the Runewars bias?). You should not take this telling you something about the state of the game. It merely tells you something about psychology of folks.
I don't want to say Armada wouldn't profit a lot by getting more attention. However, it does well without it.
In my area Armada is growing rapidly since the beginning of the year. I don't have any idea why, but it is skyrocketing. And next Saturday our local tourney is for the first time totally overbooked (which is kind of sad, because I am the judge of this tourney. Hence, I will step down and let somebody else play
)

Yeah, this is kinda what I meant and ultimately something FFG must understand(?). Perhaps their data is showing the opposite.
I just don’t think uncertainty is conducive to stability/growth. Maybe I’m wrong
Can't be disappointed in a lack of players when there isn't any players.
Locally I've been busy. But Legion sure doesn't seem like it's taking off (I'll know better when I go reload on paints this week and eyeball FLGS stock). Armada never really ever took off. And honestly even X Wing is pretty dead minus a handful of guys still in it.
I could see Armada drying up in general. I don't expect more than 2 ships a release and I just don't expect more than a release a year. There definitely is bigger cash cows to milk other than us.

That was...honest and actually a lot more positive than I was expecting. Your excommunication has been put on hold. (Order 67 is canceled guys, pull back) ![]()
I agreed with most of it, although I can see your faith in Legion clouding a lot of your judgement. That passion you write about exists in a lot of us for Armada. I still hear John Williams music as I play. I still am totally enthralled with this game. And I really like Legion, too. (Spent lots of $$ already on it) It is easy to see that you are totally in love with it. And that is cool.) I live in an area that NEVER had a strong presence, and scrap to play any game I can get. I'm sure the deflation of losing your group adds to the issue.
We'll see how folks feel after FFG (hopefully, crossing fingers, praying, doing dances) announces the "something big for 'Mada on May 1?

Enough of this downer crap. It's time to get pumped for Worlds!

I agree with all of this, with some additional thoughts.
Thought 1: DMC and CyK will be the most common dual ISD builds, and if there was a meta where they can win, this is it. However, (personal opinion incoming) if a dual ISD build wins, it will be neither of those builds. Dual Cymoons lacks genuinely consistent damage, and CyK has a huge shatterpoint. If dual ISD wins, it'll be something closer to dual superheavy I-2s or something like the thing that almost won Gencon. I'm also curious how many MC75s will show up, and if the MC75/MC80 build I've had some success with and I've seen around a bit will make an appearance. (Won't be from me, I'm not going.)
Thought 2: MSU is the real dark horse at Worlds this year. Given MSU's fade into the shadows, I think it will have a serious element of surprise. Raddus is bursting onto the competitive scene, but that explosion has been slow motion. Most of the genuinely dangerous and top-level players have seen him and are learning how to deal with him. MSU fleets at Worlds will almost certainly be scratch built for the tournament, and will be new combinations and new tactics. It's going to be one of the hardest for a lot of fleets to deal with because it is their natural counter and because they are all quiet there is no fleet to practice against. I wouldn't bet against MSU this year.
Thought 3: If there was a year for the Imperials to finally take home the trophy, this is their best shot yet. I'm not saying it's an Imperial tournament to lose, but the door is as open as it's gotten. We shall see what happens.

I wrote an article about what I am bringing to worlds. You can read it later once I am there and already playing.
I think many players will gravitate towards Raddus due to his easy advantages he provides. I don't know how well the MC75 will do in worlds as it has to double arc to reliably do damage unless you have Sato on board. And that takes a lot of skill and cogs in a complex machine to work. I still think MC80 Star Cruisers or Battlecruisers are the best bet for a Raddus ship in the long run. Rebels still have much in the way of variety compared to the imperials.
ISDs of course will be dominant. Vader and Sloane are my expected top two in the standings for Imperial admirals with Motti and JJ here and there. I hope to see more of the small imperial ships around. Raiders and Arquitens just don't seem too competitive to me though. Funny enough I think Interdictors can be pretty good in an ISD list. Lots of potential.

Better not be Garm with 2 MCEF Liberties with 8 Lancers. That's MY fleet.
