Seriously, they show him leading ground assaults to mop up a fleet action, or looking out for himself on the ground. He's got pretty good martial arts skills too, he'd slot right in with attack dice levels like Leia and the imperial Armor Die.

Headcanon is the most powerful canon. :P

Thrown doesn't appear to wear armor (Unlike Veers, who has visible armor). A white defense die with a surge seems more likely.

As far as Vader... I feel Vader himself is fine, but Implaccable and New Ways to Motivate Them feel less practical than Luke's counterparts. A free action of your choice can be more powerful than a free dodge token or a double attack, but Luke's commands are much more reliable; Shuffling Vader's token into the pool means you can't count on his second activation happening when you want it. As for the priority two command... Well, my main frustration is that Vader doesn't get any benefit from being activated, but Luke can get a dodge token from his priority two command.

Yeah the concept of more flexible but at the cost of health sounds good on paper but when 99% of the time you would want to do what the guy without flexibility is doing it's just a much worse effect.

Vader was my MVP last night. I was able to force Long March on a Breakthrough objective. I think my opponent was counting on his activation advantage (9 to 7) to give him a good shot at the objective, but I just slow marched Vader down the board (through cover-granting, difficult area terrain that he doesn't care about). At turn 3 or 4, I had the opportunity to Implacable him for a second turn of movement late in the turn, then pulled off a second activation Matter of Evil to drop nine suppression tokens, drowning half his remaining army in to turns off panic since I had shot Luke to pieces when he jumped out into the open to chop up my speeder bikes.

That panic bomb blatantly won the game for me, locking down an entire half or more of the board that had been holed up in cover whittling away at my advancing forces. They never got their chance to sprint across the field after they mostly cleared the threats from it. The other half had been preoccupied with the AT-ST that was keeping their actions limited via suppression from turn 1. I ended up losing Vader to the one Corps that was out of range, who finished him off, but he single-handedly prevented three, maybe four, units from scoring.

Fair enough, although that's not his most iconic outfit. And hard to tell apart from Veers on the tabletop.

That will probably be a regular problem for most imperial commanders.

Pose will be substantially different I feel.

Ironically, I think the release of Veers and Leia will actually help Vader, since Luke And other Vaders are his biggest counters. If people are spending points on cheap commanders and more troops, they're not spending points on the only things that can stand up to his lightsaber in melee combat.

Vader is the only unit that can cherry pick where the wound goes. That is a plus.

Yeah, until we get another Dark Side force user, Vader carries choke and the ability to straight up end the heavy weapons guy is pretty usefl.

I have gotten a few more games in, and my opinion of Vader has changed quite a bit. I originally thought his speed would make him practically useless, but I think I was wrong. He is a monster if used carefully. A few things that have changed my mind:

he doesn’t care about difficult terrain.

His only real hard counter is Luke, but after a few games it gets easier to mitigate the danger as you’ll see it coming.

implacable is game changing. Either you shut down half of your enemies troops or they avoid Vader like the plague. Either way it’s a win as most missions are all about objectives.

He is expensive and essentially requires even more points sunk into him, but dang force choke and lightsaber throwing can make a mess of things. The ability to pick out the heavy weapons in squads is not a small thing. Unlike Luke, his master of the force ability means he just keeps going and going without losing tools while advancing.

I had some bad games with Vader and therefore changed my way of playing him. Then last night he was my MVP. Sabrethrow is one of the best heavy weapons in this game ...

Can't wait for everyone to drop Vader so Luke can starting using Pierce and killing commanders.

yeah i suspect luke to stick around though not as your actual commander.

Jump enables him to just divebomb people from ridiculous angles. Its really easy for him to sneak up behind walls and just BOING SURPRIIIIIIISE! - heck, if he can kill the unit with his Charge he can just jump back over the wall with the 2nd action lol.

I've noticed with Vader that it feels like every game i play against him its horribly going against me. My army is thinned out, im suppressed as all getout so no aiming for me, and Vader is closing in. Then vader dies and suddenly i won....wait wat? Ive had that happen in 4 of 5 games i have played as rebels so far.
