Whoops. The link works at least. Heh.
I love that stuff. Never had the time to spend making and printing it all out though.
Looks cool.
How are you supposed to print a 40" x 60" mat? Or do you just do it in pieces... I don't think my printer wouldn't be up to that anyway.
So I'll try to get pictures of the set up I created of this last night. I was able (with permission even) to use the company color laser, and I'm not real happy with the colors, they were far too dark, but oh well. I may do another print run later and redo the map if the urge strikes me.
You go to Office Max or Office Depot and buy the 110 lb card stock, and some foam board. I personally don't need a 60x40 map board so I opted to only do the 'top' half, the side without the way out of scale for RT planet. Heh. I also made three of the Asteroid bases (I plan to use them for the Battleground broken wreckage in game one).
I made the mistake of only printing the asteroids on card stock, I'd recommend printing everything on card stock. There is enough of a border around the images that you have to cut each (luckily my wife is a scrapbooker, so she has all the paper trimmers, adhesives, etc). The foam board comes in perfectly size 20x30 sheets, so I bought three, two for the map and one for the asteroid and ship bases.
I plan to buy BFG ships eventually but for now I found profile images of the sword frigate (the RT's ship), the Lunar Battle Cruiser (for the GM screen adventure), and a transport and two raiders from the chaos bfg stuff. The imperial transport looked too similar to a frigate, and I wanted the ships on the fringe of space to be varied so I went with more chaos stuff for that.
So yeah, I took those into photoshop, printed them on card stock and glued them to a few extra asteroid stands I had made. Viola, I have ships, some 'terrain' and map board to play them on. The boards fit nicely together, so I can store them as just 20x30. I think I may have found a new obsession, err hobby... because I could so see getting all of the sci fi sets they make and making buildings and ship interiors for tactical combat, villages for my D&D game, or more feral words, etc. They even have some really cool gothic sets that would make a pretty interesting gothic ship interior if you mixed in some of the ship parts.
