BEWARE THE DARK DAYS OF BIRMINGHAM

By Cloaker, in X-Wing

BIRMINGHAM NOW DWARFS THE HORRORS AT ALDERAAN

SO HATH FFG SPOKEN

THERE IS NO MENACE IN THE MIRRORS OF MIRANDA

WE FATHOM NOT THE FENN AS OUR FOE TO FEAR

THE GHOST IS MERE CHILD'S PLAY, HAVE NOT YOU HEARD?

BELIEVE THE HYPE

SAY IT WITH ME

BIRMINGHAM!

BIRMINGHAM!!

BIRMINGHAM!!!

NO THREAT GREATER

SURRENDER ALL REBEL FLEETS WHICH HAVE WON THE MAJORITY OF OTHER TOURNAMENTS

7 OF THE TOP 10 PILOTS, REBELS? TO THAT WE SAY BAH!

OBSERVE BIRMINGHAM AS THE ULTIMATE REPRESENTATION OF IMPERIAL PROWESS

YOU WERE TOLD SO

THESE ARE NOT THE SHIPS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR

Clearly we need to find some kind of hard counter to Quickdraw, at least until FFG inevitably nerfs this game-breaking menace! </sarcasm>

fear-will-keep-the-rebel-players-in-line

Just as the Prophecies have foretold! Hallowed be thy Quickdraw!

Man, I go away a couple days, and everything has gone to the birds.

I get the article, but what's this about a Miranda mirror and why do people care so much? Paul Heaver won a mirror of Han Solo and three Talas vs Han Solo and three Talas and people weren't upset at the time...

(... I mean, okay, they were upset once Fat Han propagated everywhere and Interceptors didn't have autothrusters yet, but that's different :P )

The players agreed to stop playing and go to final salvo. the judge is making them wait out the remaining 20 minutes.

Wherein two players both recognize their shot at winning if they play out the game is basically the same as flipping a coin, so might as well go relax, run down the clock and come back to roll dem dice.

It's not like there's anything on the line, right?

THIS DID NOT EXIST

BIRMINGHAM IS THE TRUTH

DO NOT FALL FOR THE REBEL PROPAGANDA

DID YOU NOT READ THE MISSIVE?

IT'S ALL ABOUT TEH FIHRSST OREDOOR

Do not be so proud of these technological terrors. The ability to final salvo is insignificant next to the power of firing twice (apparently).

But what if I can fire four times? That seems pretty good.....

Spinning is a cool trick too. When do we get that as an EPT?

Done.

Just to be clear FFG, this thread is actually sarcastic and should in no way be considered as proof that the meta is fine or that Quickdraw needs a nerf.

Just wanted to make sure that was clear since I know you all have a bit of trouble figuring out what we actually want.

Nerf "Expose" - getting an extra attack dice is too good, thats 0.5 times the attack dice of a TIE fighter which costs 12pt; clearly "Expose" should have costed 6pt..

Never had an issude with nymanda, ghost/fenn, or quickdraw. XD why the bellyaches? XD

Because it wouldn't be an internet forum without self-entitled, opinionated hysteria I guess! ?

That's... deeply troubling

But from a mathematical point of view, I'm not sure I agree with them - Andrew's Miranda is in much better shape, so they need only press the attack and they might actually wear them down! Maybe! This isn't a flip of the coin, the coin is very slightly skewed!
... okay probably not but
... I'll see myself out :P

No, the playing of the game was largely futile. The sustained run of positive variance that was needed for one Miranda to kill the other is astronomically unlikely.

But that's the squads they chose to play, it's the match they were given, and when given it neither of them tried to avoid creating this stalemate endgame. They chose strategies that they knew were likely to lead to a coin flip for the winner, then sulked about the fact that they had to play a stalemate board position to the finish. They were also very poorly advised by the TO staff about their decision to stop playing.

But the only reason any of this really happened was the unfortunate coincidence that the matchup happened in the final round of a major tournament with a 2 hour time limit. If it happened at any other time the match would have ended long before they decided to throw their rattles out of the pram and do Loopin Chewie instead.

The stalemate could have been avoided pretty easily. Focus on your opponent's Miranda first, when you've still got all of your ships on the board. Make her the priority target.

It was the players' tactics that led to the stalemate, not the squads.

That, and playing really boring squads.

As neither of us have navigated our way successfully to a system open final I don't think we're qualified to saying this like that as being 'pretty easily'. It might well be that aiming for Miranda when she's being backed by Lowhrick and Fenn is the great way to kill nothing while your opponent chews through your support ships.

But if you don't try to change the equation, don't try to save a Harpoon or something, then you're heading to a stalemate and you should be prepared to play the game to its conclusion.

But the amount that I've seen has been said about one game played in fluke circumstances is INSANE. It's not worth any more time hashing it over.
