Spending Advantage - who chooses?

By Dodd81, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

Just starting out, having played the Beginner Game adventure this evening.

From what I've read/seen, I'm getting mixed messages on who chooses what to do with Advantage rolled by the PC.

The Beginner Game rules seem to suggest the player chooses, but then I've seen other examples where the GM appears to decide. Is it more of a fluid thing, a mixture of both - whatever suits the story?

Thanks.

Typically, whomever rolled the pool (in other words: the person performing the action) gets to decide. However, the GM and rest of the table are welcome to make suggestions. Some GMs may even prepare some results that could happen on Advantage/Triumph. But ultimately, the roller gets to decide.

However, the GM always has final say on if the suggestion is acceptable for the amount of advantage rolled. For instance, 2 advantage may not be enough to disarm a trained inquisitor, and the GM can rule that it is not.

Great, thanks!

At my table, after a player rolls generally they decide the good stuff while I (referee) decide the bad stuff. This is just a general rule though. Suggestions are welcome both ways. For example, if a player makes a suggestion of how the disadvantages or despairs he rolled may be used, I go with it IF it matches the strength of the results (the player isn't trying to low ball his own despairs).

Yeah, this is generally how we were playing it. If the players came up with a good idea, I'd go with it. Likewise, if the player couldn't think of something good to do with their advantage, I'd suggest something.

Thanks.
