Universal expansions?

Now what I mean is expansions that are not for a particular faction.

I’m not thinking scum units per se, but some things like E-web blasters. Rather than have, as the wotc minis game and Imperial assault have done, an e-web with a figure attached, why not just have the e-web be a immovable upgrade that, anyone adjacent could use?

I can see them coming in a terrain pack for an objective or two, but not as an upgrade unless there is a figure included.

Yeah, they already announce the objective expansion. That would be a universal expansion. I don't see them making a universal unit.

That could be interesting for one type of thing, but the E-Web would probably work better being one with a unit where it has a moving and a firing mode, where you spend an action to switch between them. Perhaps a rather expensive upgrade that would add a GNK to the unit in order to bypass that (I have fond memories of old RPG games where a Jawa had one that he used as a mount with an attached E-Web).

Something that I'd love to see that wouldn't be for a particular faction would be something like the LIN series demolitions droids that were used from the Clone Wars period through the rebellion by both sides as minelayers/defusers. Always wanted one I didn't need to piece together a mini of (though they're rather simple to make) since I started playing the WotC version of the rpg since it was one of the cards everyone used from the decipher CCG.

They'd make a great support unit, no attacks but a special action to plant a mine or defuse one and the ability to not trigger mines by proximity. An upgrade that might add impact to the mines it lays or the range. Perhaps improvements to the ability to lay them, or even start the game with so many "suspicious" tokens positioned on the table (Say you can place three, one of which is an actual mine).

Another thing could be an AT-PT since, while they were mainly Imperial, the rebels stole them often enough.

Perhaps also some unit expansions where there might be some generic upgrades for a faction which could be in several of them. Say a 2-1b that could be put in any Rebel unit as a unit upgrade rather than an extra trooper. An imperial counterpart would work as well, same with ammo droids. Other things of the sort might be a remote as a targeting droid that could grant or upgrade precise while also being an extra mini for the force that could be removed but doesn't actually attack on its own.

...I like the idea....brilliant...some versatility of equipment!....

How about Hondo? Willing to join whoever gets him a profit...or the side to less likely to get him killed.

Hondo definitely falls under the scum category, which I wasn't thinking about.

Though I did have another thought; and I think the new fallout Skirmish game from Modiphius does this, with some AI controlled enemies.

Imagine a rancor, rather than being controlled by a player, the rancor wanders through the battlefield attacking anything close by.

You could do this with Tusken Raiders, Nexu, an acklay, or any creature really. Add this into the conditions category and you could have some more variety.

That sounds pretty awesome actually. Could make a area a high risk spot that people avoid unless they have to go that way due to space or an objective.

Exactly. Plus a decision, do you brave the beast weakening yourself to take the objective, or hope your opponent does that so you can defeat a weakened fow?

There could be a bantha herd that provides cover, but moves.

With all the characters that might not neatly fit into either faction, I can see them doing something like the Dire Foes packs for Infinity. A good story, some interesting figures, maybe new objectives and terrain with a fluff-filled mission to go along. This would also seem like a good way to get Jabba, Jawas, tusken raiders (or any iconic character which really makes no sense on the battlefield) into the game. My 2 cents.

This sort of thing is fairly common in skirmish games, but I don't think it fits really with Legion's scale - it adds much more spice when you've got fewer models per side and each model matters more. (But do whatever you want in casual games.)

Isn't this what Minefield already does (will do)?
