As some of you may have heard on various x-wing podcasts the PTL was organizing a party bus to worlds from Toronto. This bus was to be the main method of transportation for the majority of Canadians in south-western Ontario as flying out of Pearson is far too expensive. Unfortunately the bus has just been cancelled by it's organizer Tim Bo Slice. https://www.facebook.com/events/398060267271799/417766865301139/?notif_t=plan_mall_activity¬if_id=1522438717613577 It seems tickets are the leading cause of this cancellation. I'd like to say here that Tim and a few others from the PTL reached out to FFG OP 6 months ago in an attempt to secure a number of tickets so they could organize this bus. FFG OP declined the offer so as not to show favoritism. As a disappointed Canadian who may not be able to attend worlds at all now all I can say at this point is enjoy your third national this year and be thankful you live in the same country as "worlds".
Worlds Party Bus Cancelled
Well, now FFG should get hired by NYC to organize the new years celebration since they are really good at dropping the ball.
Bummer deal, sorry.

Well, that's unfortunate -- I know some US folks from the Detroit area who were planning on party busing.
Me, I can't get Worlds tickets, so ... problem solved.
I feel like this happened a day early.
Also, we don't need a nationals to happen in the US to win it.

Yeah, really unfortunate they had to make the decision (at least a day early).
I can certainly understand FFGs reasoning there, at least with how they organized World's, which has made it really tough for people from outside the US to get 2nd round tickets due to planning. Hopefully the rework that next year.

Be thankful you got a ticket to Worlds. Many were not so lucky. FFG did the right thing not securing tickets for a select few. The lotto system sucks, but at least it sucks equally for everyone.

I think you're missing the point that World's will more or less just be another US Nationals because of how FFG organized it. Though, to be fair, that is the USA way!

It's really not that it's the "USA way." It would basically be a nationals for whichever country it was organized in and it would cost them an astronomical amount to go anywhere else. I mean it would be nice if they could, but at least they've added avenues for people that win regionals to attend as well as System Opens as a larger tournament.
MFW FFG botches the organization of something
Seriously... What do we expect from them? They are running several of the biggest miniatures games in the hobby, and they are unable to hire an intern to spell check their articles, (or even write them, so they could have articles published a bit more regularly), their playtesting is atrocious, and they show a lack of any and all long term goals FOR YEARS now.
They keep making the same mistakes... Over and over again.
I love their games, they have real intuitive designs that really help the hobby freshen up.
But they are literally the worst at organising things. They don't do a satisfactory job, and there is little, if any, signs of improvement.
Um, is this where I bring up that Toronto is as close to Worlds as I am (Knoxville, TN), and I live within a 1 day drive of 50% of the US population... While I'm sorry the bus didn't work out (because tickets to worlds are super borked and stupid), Merica is nearly as big as Texas, and plenty of us struggle to get to there from here...
Edit - google maps says you're actually 9 minute closer than me.

As a disappointed american who lives 3 hours from MSP and didn't get a ticket, my heart breaks for you. Hopefully your national champion is able to represent Canada well.

Toronto is about fifteen hours closer than me. I mean, I can understand the OP's disappointment, but it's not like Minnesota is close and convenient for about 75% of America either.
It would be almost a 14 hour drive for me to get to Roseville MN, still better than the $1000+ round trip tickets from Europe or Australia though. I could get a ticket April 10th and be able to afford to go to worlds if I wanted to, even though that's pretty last minute to make travel plans. Hopefully FFG takes into account the difficulty they are putting non-US players in by having such last minute ticket sales next year.

They really need to alter the regional season (again) if they want people to have more time to prep and plan for Worlds. They’ve put themselves in a weird spot where they’d have to hold spots for every single regional winner if they did sign-ups earlier, so there wouldn’t be many spots available anyway.
I guess thats the equity in Minnesota.. its fracking inconvenient for everyone.
Bossk had a higher paying job else where.

Hosting a "World Championship" in a place, and in a way that hinders the ability for people from anywhere else in the world to attend is absurd.
This event shall forevermore be known as FFG-Con.

You are 100% wrong. A group of your consumers reaches out 6 months in advance trying to plan something like this, you say yes, highlight the **** out of to show you actually listen and care about said consumers, and just make the event bigger.
I really liked the idea the Kessel Run guys had on their last episode of turning Worlds into “FFG Con”, held at some huge local venue, that is focused less hyper competitive and more of fun, casual and social. Imagine an unlimited attendance event where all your xwing buddies are there, plenty of booze and pizza, daily tournaments and side events, a big hyped team event, all over the course of three or four days, with all your favorite Star Wars games, and maybe even a big narrative linking them all together.
Sounds fun as **** right?
Complications:
- FFG seems really, really attached to running things there at their Game Center, which makes space super limited
- It would require a bigger up front cash investment than the “crumpled up 20 dollar bill” that is the OP budget
- It requires professional organization and planning (FFG is game company, not a convention organizer!)
This complications could all likely be met by outsourcing the event to a trusted party. (I think Cascade Games, Aaron Utley, Sable Gryphon, and Aaron Bonar all have experience here.) FFG would have to give up profit margin to make it worth their while though ...

They have to hold it somewhere and frankly, for people not from North America, any large city in the US is much the same as another. It'd be nice if it was more accessible, somewhere like LA or New York for example, but there's a financial aspect to that as well. The biggest issue for me is the last-minute nature of the ticket sales, not the location.
Give FFG a break, this is their first opportunity to hold a world championship, they’ll learn and get it right next year.

Have you looked at a map of the world?
Everywhere will hinder the ability of somebody else in the world to attend.
22 hour drive for me.
