make a unique list that makes a splash
play on stream
make the cut ( I never have)
not choke ( I always do - I have ended my last few tournaments flying myself off the board in high stakes situations)
have fun along the way

My goal is always have fun while trying to win, in case being satisfied by just getting in the cut. All while having as much fun socializing as possible.
The only thing I don't value as much is just playing for the sake of playing. I am lucky enough to play usually at least 3 games every week, so in major events, if I have no longer chance to play to win I'd rather drop and get drunk while watching the top tables.
I have to say that since 2015 I have attended lots of tournaments, both in my country and internationally. I had just 2 unpleasant games ever.
Original poll parameters don't match my goals. Closest would be 'make the cut' but any plastic garbage I happened to win from doing so would be launched into the nearest bin.

Yeah, hard to believe I didn't include that option in the poll.

My goals are generally both to have fun and to play my best game.
The first part has the consequence that I won't join in what I don't like to play against myself, and/or what I think is not healthy for the game.
The second part means I'm not happy when I win and played badly, but I am very happy when I lost and played well or had an exciting game. I had some real nailbiters since wave 12+13 dropped and the game was really fun for quite some time.
Somehow there is this inverse correlation with the size of the even though. The larger it was the less fun I had, so far. Also my own fault because my fun-condition is not to punt, and the more games I play the stronger the fatigue and the higher the chance to mess up really bad. Add to that my preference for lists that punish mistakes, and it gets pretty clear why I'm having less fun at larger events.

You misunderstand me, but that seems to be deliberate these days. Your standards are slipping, doc.

well feel free to launch it my way! I love the plastic garbage. :-)

Whoever standing next to me tends to get it, tbf. I've not actually binned any of it, that would be a bit OTT.
Have fun is the priority. It's a social experience that makes it all worth it. Acrylics are fun but make poor friends. Winning stuff is icing on the cake.
I've dropped from quite a few regional cuts to have a beer with my mate(s) that lost one of his cut games or didn't get in in the first place. I really don't care about winning that much, especially after most of the swag has been won anyway.
