Trooper variance

By migs6000, in Painting

I've been watching Sorastro's painting which I'm going to follow when I get my stuff. But, I was wondering how to go about make sand troopers? Or maybe something different for the rebel troopers. Any tips, vids or advice?

For Rebels just throw a Google image search for Camo or Camo Patterns

Every color combo known will come up. So will patterns. Find color scheme you like and go.

I am going to do all of the clothes the same but paint the "brims" of the helmet different colors to differentiate squads.

the "brim" of the helmet is actually part of the hat that forms the top and ear protection for the trooper. the "helmet" is an armored ring that sits on top of that hat.

To make sand troopers just make the regulars then wash them with really thin agrax earthshade. I think

I’ve found a reasonably thick coat of Nuln oil gets great results for sand/dust stains on my Stormtroopers.

U think lol? Is it that easy?

Seraphim sepia would also work. Also maybe dont varnish them with gloss, but with matt or satin.

For a super dusty, matt look I suggest drybrushing your troopers white after your wash of Agrash Earthshade.

It's good to see pedantry is still alive and well on internet forums.

On my troopers, I used Agrax Earthshade on just the feet to make it look like they were walking through mud. So this is what it looks like on them:

for Sandtroopers, I'd recommend just working the Earthshade all the way up the mini, but still having the most at the bottom.

Note that it's not a very "sandy" color, definitely more of a dark muddy brown. However, in Episode IV, the sandtroopers seem to have a very dark brown sand on them. So I think this color is probably movie accurate, despite not being quite as accurate from the standpoint of trying to make it look like sand.

Reikland fleshshade might also work to look more sandy than the agrax earthshade. I might not try this on models with flesh exposed but on stormies it would probably look fine.
