Can I get an official answer for why the ruling for Hypochondria and Key of Ys are so different?
Hypochondria - "Forced - After you take 1 or more damage: Take 1 direct horror."
Key of Ys - "Forced - When any amount of horror would be placed on you: Place 1 of that horror on Key of Ys."
So the word "you" is used in Hypochrondria to refer to "You and assets you control", but in Key of Ys it refers only to your investigator card. Why?
Cheers
Key of Ys vs Hypochondria
I believe its not in the "you" but in the words "take" versus "placed on you".
Reread the rules rulebook, Taking Damage/Horror page 20 and then Dealing Damage/Horror on page 7.
Edited by JobuThe rules you've quoted actually make it worse!
Hypochondria says: "Forced - After you take 1 or more damage: Take 1 direct horror."
Rules Reference says: "
“Take X damage” is shorthand for “deal X damage to your investigator.”"
So Hypochondria actually MEANS "
Forced - After you {deal 1 or more damage to your *
investigator*
}: Take 1 direct horror."
Which goes *AGAINST* the Hypochondria ruling, saying that it triggers whenever you assign horror to any of your assets or investigator!
The quoted rules do support the rulings for Hypochondria and Key of Ys.
As you say, "take" is shorthand for "deal", so looking at Dealing Damage/Horror in the Rules Reference:
There are two steps, first assign damage/horror then apply damage/horror. First damage/horror is placed by the cards that will take it. Second, that damage/horror is placed onto the cards to which it had been assigned. It is only at this second step that Key of Ys' Forced ability takes effect, so it only applies if you have assigned horror to your investigator card and not just because you have been dealt horror to assign. However, Hypochondria's Forced ability triggers after taking damage, i.e. after the two steps are completed, and is therefore not dependent on which cards were assigned damage (only that you were dealt damage to assign).
Hope that makes sense.
I think it makes it very clear. The process goes like this:
A. Dealing Damage/Horror (a short hand way if saying this is Take Damage or Horror) <-- This is where you "take" damage
- Assign Damage/Horror At this point you decide where damage will be dealt (you or assets)
- Apply Damage/Horror <-- This is where you "place" damage on yourself.
Edit: After reading Assussani's post, I agree that "After you take damage" is after the whole process. It doesn't change what the definition of taking damage is.

+1 to all the above explaining the difference.
So the question becomes - Why isn't Key worded like:
"Forced - When any amount of horror would be placed on your investigator card : Place 1 of that horror on Key of Ys."
Because then it would actually be clear :/
(PS - Thanks everyone)
Because game desiner sometimes miss the "best possible way to word effects". You can't expect them to be perfect.
