First time flying Sato

By Plessiez, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Could anyone please tell me if this fleet is viable? I realise the near naked AFmk2 might look weird but it seems like a fairly cheap platform for getting more out of Sato’s ability. I also like the idea of three combat ships. I think that with all of that counter Toryn would be useful but I’m not sure how best to fit her in.

ECM on the Orca, always. Helps ensure you use your def tokens

You won't be able to resolve both apt and wide area barrage on the same attack, might be better to take external racks. Not feeling the assault frigate... A mc30 or a hammerhead would be much better

I agree that the Assault Frigate just won't be that great with two black. They are two rerollable black, which is good, but not great. Much better would be something that can have an ordnance slot. Two hammerhead APTs and TFO (or Ordnance experts) would do you well. Or a scout frigate with ATPs. And it doesn't have to be ATPs, it could be ACM or WAB, but whatever you pick have it the same on everything. Your black dice will just be so much more valuable if they have that extra punch of a critical effect.

I have been playing with a Sato fleet of Hammerheads, and I am loving it! I want to give the Ordnance Cruiser a shot with him as well.

Good point on WAB and APT, thanks. I have another list I'm looking at with a similar MC75 and admonition but that didn't seem like enough ships to take advantage of Sato. At which point it looks better as a dodonna list I think?

If you want to try something else than the Sato Ordnance Cruiser, try the Sato Armored Cruiser! And here's why:

You can include both Heavy Ion Emplacements (HIE) and Assault Concussion Missiles (ACM). Include Caitlynn and Shannon and you have one set of rerollable dice per round.

Now, you might be wondering about the effectiveness of this setup - but I'm here to clear any doubt of your mind! When a ship has full shields, you trade two dice to blue dice so that you can increase the odds of proccing HIE. In other words, you start tearing down shields insanely fast. Now, when you've torn through all shields, you start trading two dice for black dice so that you increase the chances of proccing ACM!

Initially, I thought Sato would only be viable with the Ordnance Cruiser, but I actually found that the Armored Cruiser could take large ships down way quicker. For added fun, you can Profundity a Hammerhead with ER and Garel's Honor :)

Thanks, @HawkwingI like that idea!
