Crazy theory:

They have hinted that there will be an aggressive release schedule and that every third release will be “neutral”. What if the third release after the assumed Imperial special forces wave is a “neutral” special forces Boba Fett? Comes with both Imperial and Rebel deployment cards and can be “hired” by either side?

I believe is more in the line of the box we are getting with scenery and objective/deployment/condition cards. So additional gameplay that does not necessarily fall under the army unit category. Or maybe it falls in that category but can also serve as scenery or an objective... I'm imagining a Hoth inspired box that brings the canon emplacement or some probe droids that go with some objective card making it good for either rebel or imperial players.

Only if it's a crippled/crashed/destroyed probe droid hopefully - I would like see 'live' probe droids as a unit choice (like in IA).

A GNK droid would also make for a good objective marker.

I think it will be either the Emperor or Iden.

Since Rebels got their main trio I can really see them adding in old Palpy to bring in the Empire duo. And with him comes the Royal Guards.

If they wanted to keep the Endor theme going Iden was on Endor during Han's assault on the Shield Generator so she could be added with scout troopers. And like the endor ones there could be a special forces unit of scouts, and well Iden is Special Forces.

The mission using the GNK Droid could be something like:

GNK Droid has 5 health and defensive surges.

Blue player starts with GNK Droid in their deployment area.

GNK Droid performs a speed 2 move towards the opponents end of the board every turn.

If the GNK Droid enters the opponents deployment zone, the Blue player wins.

If the GNK Droid is destroyed, the Red player wins.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing an unnamed Imperial Officer or Stormtrooper Commander. They don't all have to be named characters.

I don't think the unit will necessarily be a similar theme as it's opposing faction. If that was the case we would have had echo troopers instead of fleet troopers in wave two.

But, this is the first Special Forces unit for both sides, and so far they have been comparable in capabilities if not in theme. OG Corps get keywords to use tokens better. 2nd Corps get an extra free action when they do another action, and also tend to be stronger at shorter ranges. AT-ST and T-47 both have high power main weapons and Arsenal. AT-RT and Speeder Bikes both are highly mobile with a defensive keyword each in their own way.

Since we have been told Scout Troopers should be coming, it's hard to think of a better match which should either have scout or sharpshooter outright and probably their own other keyword. Similarly, they'd also add a Sniper-type weapon probably, which would match what Rebel Commandos should get (though probably not identical).

Its going to be bobafett, people. And yeah, probably scout troopers. There should only be units from the original trilogy until around wave 3 or 4. They need to flesh out the originals first, people.

Save Boba for the scum faction.

Also I might be in the minority here but I really don't want to see the emperor or other characters like admirals and moffs in this game. It doesn't really make sense for them to be in a ground skirmish, or combat at all for a lot of them. In the same vein I would hate to see Mon Mothma, Dodonna or Akbar.

I would much rather see generic commanders over stuff that breaks the lore and theme of the game.

I would love scout troopers next as I think I'll be skipping over snowtroopers at first to keep my endor theme... I really wouldn't mind a generic or little known commander and just have him be cheap in order to max out the rest of my force. I like all Veers rules and his cheaper points cost but he will look a little funny running around the jungle with his winter gear on...

It's a standard Imperial Army uniform for officers and drivers, you could woodland him up to make him fit in better. That'd be a pretty interesting paint-job.

Thrawn with Noghri could be an interesting thing for it. Having it be something very different as a force to paint than the white and black of the ground forces that the Imperials currently have, allowing a break in painting white and black

I’m having a hard time narrowing it down to one person/unit so here is my top three:

Commander:

Tarkin, Renz, or Thrawn. All three had screen time but I am leaning more to Renz because he still has one of the most memorable voices and lines for me “You rebel scum.” Thrawn would be an interesting addition this early in the games life but I feel Tarkin or Renz would cone first

Special Forces:

Sand troopers, Scout troopers on foot, maybe inferno squad. As much as I would love to see Death Troopers and Shore Troopers I do think both will release along side director Kennric.

I’m trying to think along the lines of original series units but I’m at a loss for special forces for imperials.

So far they have shown us only characters and units that were available from Rogue One'ish through RoJ. With that in mind I would think they would bring out the following following possible combinations:

Tarkin with Death Star Troopers (similar to the rebel fleet troopers coming out)

or

Krennic with his Death Troopers or Shore Troopers (a bit of a stretch on Shore Troopers as he didn't directly lead them on Scarif)

The Empire already has specialized troops coming with Snow Troopers which are like the Rebel Commandos.

Not quite.

Veers is wearing the standard Officers Battle Dress for the Imperial Army.

The drivers uniform has the same helmet, but no chest plate and a boiler suit.

Uh no, Commandos are Special Forces on the Org Chart, Snowtroopers are Corps.

Yep, they're, supposedly, the equivalent to the Fleet Troopers in the setup...

I was hoping they would release the next imperial expansion today since it's Friday.

I just spit out my drink. Wasn't expecting this XD

If there going for poster boy recognisible screen time commanders that man in the street might know from watching the Films and Shows then: Thrawn, Krennic, Tarkin or Kallus. Boba Fett being a commander would be the nail in the coffin of a hope for a scum faction. I think Boba might be a support choice with some cool abilities and be interesting if he's introduced would he maybe be multi faction... I don't know the Emperor popping up for a Skirmish would make sense, but maybe if they go for a scenario pack that would him set up with new objectives that would have to be matched v a Jedi like a what if Yoda comes out of retirement for one last shot. But scenario box expansions are probably down the road if at all.

Troopers, Scouts you could argue are in the game already with the speeder bikes, so if totally new unit Death Troopers, Noghri or Shore Troopers would make more sense.

More niche EU characters and troops I feel will be later waves there's still plenty of on screen characters and troops for FFG to pick from.

Boba Fett was also an Imperial pilot in X-wing before getting a Scum card, so I wouldn’t consider it a dealbreaker.

That being said, I would envision a Bounty Hunters expansion: Boba Fett, Dengar, IG-88, Bossk, 4-LOM, etcetera; each operating as a 1 (or 2 for the paired characters) special forces unit. Tough like a commander, but having no command cards of their own.

Fett as a commander doesn’t really make sense, given that he’s not in the chain of command, just a hired gun.

I’m thinking Palpatine, Tarkin (or other officer present, probably one from the FFG game Rebellion), maybe Krennic, but nothing is from Rogue One yet, so....

There's probably not going to be a scum faction until the developers flesh out the original trilogy. This goes for all other units. There won't be any expanded universe units until about wave 3 or 4 at the least, if ever. Talking about anything other than original trilogy stuff at this time is just not going to come to fruition, but I have to agree that a scum faction would be awesome down the road.

Everybody keeps talking about how Boba Fett cannot be a commander. People, you are taking the term commander too literally. If Boba Fett comes out as a commander it just means his cards will help himself and nobody else. We all know Boba is just too powerful to be part of a special forces unit. Wrist rocket and flamethrower are perfect upgrade cards, among others. I know most of you don't want him to be an imperial unit due to him possibly being in the scum faction, but why can't ffg just say he's also a part of the scum faction later? Folks, he's basically the most lovable character in the Star Wars universe--let him play.

We could always bet on bounty hunters a la Shogun.

I don't see how you can say Boba Fett is "too powerful" for a special forces unit. I fully expect there to be a whole bunch of named powerful special forces units as making every named person in star wars a commander would severely limit the amount that a lot of the characters would get played. For example from Rouge One Chirrut, Baze, K2SO, and Bodi would all fit the special forces slot. Only Jyn and Cassian would fit for the commander slot.

As for Boba Fett being an Imperial Commander, that just doesn't make sense as he was never a part of the Empire. It doesn't make any sense to have him be a Commander just because he is popular.
