Scout Troopers Painted

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Legion

Knocked these out last night, they were a little messier than I would like but I think they turned out decent and definitely look good from the tabletop. Can't wait for them to give us a painting sub-forum.

Serious Question:

We know in the core its the guy with both hands on the handlebars, but both Biker Scouts here are holding the handles.

So how do we tell which one is the unit leader?

I went with a different colored shoulder pad on mine, but if doing standard scheme, I guess you could mark the rear of the base somehow.

The unit leader is same in both the Core and expansion, its just instead of having a guy not paying attention to driving with the core set this one has the other guy speeding up. He is notably leaning forward, though maybe it could be harder picking up on that from a distance.

Thanks, I couldn't see the difference in sculpts from pictures of the expansion bikes.

What shade of brown did you use on these?

Same as Sorastro, a 1:1 mix of Mournfang Brown (Vallejo: Beastly Brown) and Rhinox Hide (Vallejo: Charred Brown) with a 1:1 mix of Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade.

The one that is in the foreground of the first picture is the racing ahead one, his bike was used for the close up of the console too so you can see that his handle bar is pressed forward. Wish I could put up a picture of the difference but can't do that until later this evening.

To distinguish my scouts from each other, I went with a unique paint scheme on the tarps/tiedowns behind the bike's seats. I tried to keep the tones earthy and muted, but they're different enough.

Is it fixed now?

Yep.

Building mine just now but have the problem of poor instructions. So, where do the 'lamps' go?

If you look on the cylinder of the "lamp" you'll see a little rectangle that sticks out. This corresponds to a gap in the bottom on the right side of the bike. There's like a rectangular shaped section missing out of the curved underside. To help get this right, the tubing actually goes up into an open slot on the bike as well.

Ha! After much consternation and searching, I found the notch the slot fits into on Saturday, but I missed the spot for the tubing so I oriented it wrong (and was sure I was doing it wrong since it looked ungainly). Thanks for this, now I can get my second set right. Should probably be able to break the superglue to correct the first two, as well.

Not the miniature but should help a little bit.

Question for you. Did you start with the model painted white and then start the tedious process of painting the black areas, or did you paint the model black and then just paint the white areas? Looking to see which way would be easier.

Spelling error

Careful edge work is careful edge work, to me. So I lightly spray prime white, do a quick once over with a large brush to even the color out (I also prefer my troopers with a slightly warmer white than the primer, so I miss in a small amount of bone/beige to the white I brush on), then go in and hit the blacks with a small brush, knowing I'll make some slips that will need to be corrected since the areas are small.

I'd rather do those corrections, though, because you can get away with one or two coats on small edge patches much easier than building up large areas from a black to a solid white, which is ultimately why I don't prime black to begin with.

I primed the troopers in white, and the bikes in black. Then after the primer dried I painted the entire scout trooper miniature in white base coat too, and painted the bike in the brown color before going in and adding other details.
