Favorite fun list and why?

By BCvalor, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I just got done playing a match with a new player that I just taught the game. I wanted to play something that wasn’t necessarily competitive, but fun so I picked up 4 vipers with the titles and auto thrusters. Three of them where the black sun enforcers and the fourth was Dalan Oberos. An hour later and I’m thinking about how fun it was just to fly all over the board and the challenge of trying to maintain formation with the crazy barrol roles.

This makes we wonder, what are your favorite lists to fly for the sheer joy of flying, and why? Do you remember a particularly fun match using the list? Please share. :-)

I love the new upgraded Dash Rendar. I use Outrider, Mangler Cannon, and that new pilot that turns a hit into a crit. Just use the 90 degree 3 turn all day. Throw a few 4 skill X Wings in for extra sponge in the fun cake. ?

Right on! I too like the mangler on dash. No doughnut hole! Plus the barrel role on a big ship is sweet

is my current favorite list. they move fast, they lay down the hurt, and it is surprisingly adaptable to many situations. Every game I've lost with it has been dangerously close (unless I derp hard, which has happened), and each time my opponent says that the games were incredibly fun and enjoyable, even when they are flying cancer.

but as long as I'm throwing fist fulls of red dice I'm a pretty happy guy.

SnapCrack A-Wings w/ Ahsoka and Sabine carrying Op Spec aka Phoenix Squadron

The list is just so **** fast, and some games only last 3 rounds. Blocked and snapped Corran to death in 1 round :P

The three named strikers with Omega Leader is another one of my favorites as well. Took three named strikers + Jendon shuttle to a store champ and 100-0 a crackswarm. Swapped Jendon out for OL after getting stomped on by Dash/Miranda, and it's been great ever since. Strikers are so fun!

I've been digging Rainbow TIE/Ds lately: Delta Squadron Pilots with TIE/D, TIE Mk. II, and one each Ion Cannon, Flechette Cannon, and Tractor Beam. Also great about it: it really f'cks up Nyms and Mirandas and other 1-agility ships. Probably less good against a Ghost, but still.

That said, you have to like flying Defenders. It's nice to get the 1 and 2 banks back, though.

that sounds really fun

I find 3 T-70's a lot of fun myself, with the added bonus that it looks like something you would see in one of the films which I think is always a benefit when introducing new players. This is my current favourite list, which I find is competitive enough against other lists just below the usual tournament favourites:

“Blue Ace” – Flight Assist Astromech, Primed Thrusters, Integrated Astromech

“Snap” Wexley - Intensity, Flight Assist Astromech, Pattern Analyzer, Integrated Astromech

“Red Ace” - R2-D2, Comm Relay, Autothrusters

Total = 100pts

I really wanna try the new flight assist astromech. Looks like such a great upgrade and for only a point!

it's so fun. I truly love it. I wasn't a believer and I expected it to be a complete dud. The first time I put it on the table with Wedge I needed more... now I own 3 Flight Assist astro expansions. It opens up so many cool options. My VI/Rey/FFA Norra for example is a viable and very different way to fly Norra. She is not as self reliant as the typical PTL/Kyle/R2D2 Norra, but she is 8 points cheaper which makes her fit into a list a lot better.

Wedge becomes a fast little bugger that can engage and disengage at whim. The tactic I've found is to skirt the edges, 3 hard in, boost/roll to lineup the shot if needed, then 3 hard out and boost/roll to get out of range/avoid arc/get behind a rock.

Flight assist Y-Wings with ion cannons are pretty entertaining too, but easy for the enemy to dodge.

Even on T-70's! I run a Jess Pava, Ello, Red Vet squad which is very maneuverable and pretty tanky with intensity and comm relays.

It is just silly how much fun and how good Flight Assist is.

Soontir - PTL/AT/Title/TC
Whisper - Kallus/ACD/VI/FCS
Duchess - Adaptability/LWF/AA

Because... FLYING!!! It was my favorite last summer when we didn't have PS11's so rampant. Still a fun list. Lately its been Kylo and Fel, Kylo with primed thrusters. Still looking for that sub-20 point "ace", but Dark Curse has gone pretty well with those two.

This is the latest version my triple ‘Vipers list. Took a variant to Seattle Regional too. LOVE the bendy BR. I resisted PtL on Guri for a while but was on the receiving end a week ago when I played a different list. Pred is more stress resistant.

* Nest of ‘Vipers (97)

•Guri (32) - StarViper
Push The Limit (3), StarViper Mk.II (-3), Autothrusters (2)

Black Sun Assassin (30) - StarViper
Predator (3), StarViper Mk.II (-3), Autothrusters (2)

•Thweek (35) - StarViper
Plasma Torpedoes (3), StarViper Mk.II (-3), Autothrusters (2), •Virago (1), Fire Control System (2), •Cloaking Device (2)

This is the list I've been dying to try. It would get chewed up and spit out by the current meta, but in my head, it flies like a dream by everyone having an action to pass along an action if need be.

I think swarmish lists might do good in the meta, but backt the reason for this post, small ships tend to be the funnest to fly i think. There is a lot more you can do with them it seams. More tricks, and besides, the tricks and cool ships is kinda the reason we all like the game so much!

If you want something fun to fly. Go with triple fang fighters. Super fun, not to competitive.

I've swapped out Flechette cannon for a second Ion cannon and found that its still a good, fun casual list, but slightly better against large base ships because you can double ion them a lot easier. Not my favorite list, but definitely in my top three.

this is my current favorite though probably not favorite overall

Total: 100/100

Nothing special and its been supported by insanely good dice rolls overall or just better than my opponents. But i am 7-0 with it currently including a 4-0 1st place tourney win.

It normally only get one cruise missile shot off but its been enough. I actually didn't trigger autothrusters on inquis at all in the tourney. I didn't fly against any turrets and i think having the cruise missiles affects how fast ppl fly in so its harder to get a range 3 shot. That and some people didn't even shoot at inquis.

Oddly enough as good as my dice have been ive had my cruise missile rolls fail quite a few times and only roll 1-2 hits even after rerolling lol.

Have you thought about replacing cruise missiles with prockets? Having prockets usually discourages enemies from trying to get into range 1 of Inqy, which helps him out.

4× Green squad A-wings: rage/deadeye/title/guidence chips/harpoon missiles

After the alpha strike, it is all about piloting.

The list I miss the absolute most was my store championship winning

Omega L (juke, relay)

Vader (vi, title, atc, engine)

Deathrain (acc corrector, seismics, Conners, extras)

My friends, these were the ace slayers, the bot hunters, the rebel Regen reapers of wave 7

Deathrain is a goddamn blast that absolutely no one knew how to counterplay, while Vader and the unassuming Omega L made late games tense regardless of what they were up against

The timing, positioning, and control elements Deathrain brought made every game as engaging as it could possibly be. The lower damage output and relative dearth of turrets made wave 7 a golden age of xwing

Really miss the punisher :(

Oh yea nothing wrong with prockets and it may actually help getting both missiles off in a game (though I'm sure with more practice i could get both cruise off more regularly).

I just like the ability to maybe get both cruise off at the beginning. But having 2 cruise missiles there is a good chance of getting one off on the 1st rd of combat. If you take prockets and cruise you may not get either. And like i said i feel like having cruise messes with ppl a little because they don't want to be in range 2-3 in the opening combat rd. Makes it harder for me to predict what they are going to do but its worked so far.

Id definitely be for switching it up to prockets though and will probably do so some games

I've had two lists recently that have stuck with me because of how fun they were to fly.

99 points

PILOTS

Countess Ryad (35)
TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2)

“Dark Curse” (16)

“Countdown” (22)
TIE Striker (20), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

Lieutenant Colzet (26)
TIE Advanced (23), TIE/x1 (0), Cruise Missiles (3), Fire-Control System (0)

This is the only list I've won a tournament with. It's a tough list for target priority and handing out free crits with Colzet and FCS is a nice mechanic. I have run this with cruise and prockets on colzet and found both to be good. all the ships are fun to fly and there is no need to fly formation if you want to break off and flank with any of them.

100 points

PILOTS

Sabine Wren (17)
Sabine's TIE Fighter (15), Juke (2)

Captain Rex (14)

Airen Cracken (20)
Z-95 Headhunter (19), Veteran Instincts (1)

Chewbacca (Heroes of the Resistance) (49)
YT-1300 (42), Swarm Leader (3), Jan Ors (2), Rey (2)

I had a lot of fun flying this too, Chewie can hit like a ton of bricks when everything kicks off. Iin a perfect round the list can throw something like 20 red dice in a round of combat and Chewie can do it fully modded. VI on Airen can be dropped to adaptability if you feel you want the evade title on the falcon. It can also be handy having Airen at PS 9 for simultaneous fire so initiative bid isn't so important. That way if another ps9 kills him chewie can still use the evade he had before being taken off the board for his revenge shot. It's no so competitive but its fun getting so much to kick off between action economy and extra dice.

Ill wager people still dont know how to fly against deathrain. The only thing keeping him off the table is that there are just better options now. But in preference, that guy is a monster.

Mine is similar to yours. Though went for a combo approach instead. The combo is the Maulors. Step 1, increase the first ship's dice. Step 2, attack with Jan to score a hit with TLT and clear stress. Step 3, increase the second ships dice. Next version is coming soon with Saw's providing an a cheaper Wedge. Norra will switch to a stress control version with R3-A2 and VI, but the current is the following:

Norra Wexley (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Ezra Bridger (3)
R2-D2 (4)

haha I swapped Norra for Jake for a while for fun. the stress control is interesting.

For my Saw's version I just added Moldy Crow and the 2 X-Wing cards to Wedge. makes a huge difference in casual play testing.
