Seriously?!?

Okay, let me start out that, after a great demo at our FLGS, I am 90% sure I'm gonna buy Legion.

That being said, TWO expansion announcements THE DAY AFTER GAME RELEASE?!?!?

I am not upset about no release news from Armada. I think Wave 7 is still fresh enough to not need more ships, BUT, we could use some objective refresh, New Campaigns, plenty of other things to be done.

But I mean, I guess FFG gets my money anyway, so maybe they are more evil genius than I give them credit for. Honestly, I think if they came out with Star wars Easy Bake Ovens, a majority of us would flock to the stores....

Pretty sure Wave two is announced almost immediately after launch for all of FFG’s games. Happened with X-Wing, happened with Armada, happens with Legion. It’s literally only to make sure people continue to have something to look forward to in Legion and get excited about.

We’ll get our next announcement probably this coming week or the one after that

It IS Legion's launch weekend and, considering FFG never seem to post articles on the weekend, they want to build hype ASAP.

Once the hype train has reached the end of the line, we'll get our Armada article.

one release per year curse? Did we not get Wave7 in Feb? Which means Armada might not get a new product all the way until next year.

That’s my fear. I would not be surprised if we don’t get new plastic until November or December.

I just packed up all my Armada stuff today to make room for Legion. The hype is real.

I don't think Armada people can be as upset as Imperial Assault players.

more overlap between IA and Legion in how the miniatures look and what they represent.

They've been effectively guaranteed a new wave announcement no later than Worlds. Seriously, look at their prize support.

I thought there for a second I was in the Legion forums

I think whats suprising is ffg seem to be learning from some of the early problems we had with armada.

The obvious one being the horrendous gulf between waves 1 and 2. I still say we lost 50% of our early community because of it.

Peversely, i find myself looking at the massive pile of legion boxes ive just bought and havent even started assembling let alone painting, knowing there are 4 more new boxes only a month away, and now thinking of the NEXT 4 after that just announced and think 'how am i going to sustain this? !'

Ive got no concerns about armada. Im pretty sure it will remain my primary game and the content is fantastic. Wave 7 was awesome and we have a great local and international community. Game is in good hands.

I can certainly see why those who want Imperial Assault to continue to be supported (and have a reasonable expectation that it will not be so) would be upset. I also think that the scale difference is just downright annoying.

Were I more of an Imperial Assault player, I'd take it as a way to get creative and to expand my gaming experience.

Also, who knows, maybe the doomsayers (including myself) are wrong, and Imperial Assault will continue to be supported. the same is true about Armada. While I do think that this means that FFG is taking their best game designers away from Armada, and putting Armada on the back-burner, I might b ewrong about that.

The announcement of Wave 2 happened only a few weeks after launch. The gulf wasn't in news, it was in the actual physical release, which I've heard multiple people with industry connections now attribute to a catastrophic explosion in the Chinese manufacturing city and port of Tianjin in August 2015.

Sure but the impact whatever the cause, people that had started playing only to find the game was missing the best ships and only a couple of things were good dropped away. Everyone who WAS really into the game was going insane by the time w2 released.

I actually returned my unopened Imp stuff today after playing the duels for opening weekend. With Solo and spec ops announced Friday, there is no way I can keep up. Rebels only from here on out.

Absolutely. But we knew there was product in the pipeline and that it had been created thanks to the Sullust event. It was clear that something had gone wrong. The far worse issue was the extreme delay for Waves 3 and 4, especially when several weeks were spent where the only ships announced were the flotillas. That nearly killed the game in many places.

Yeah I had sort of erased the Wave 3 announcement debacle from my brain (cauterised is probably a better word).

I think why the wave 2 wait stands out for me as an Australian is that we didn't get Massing at Sullust. I was very bitter about that. If they had ran even one Sullust event in Sydney at the time I reckon they would have got thirty players easily. Instead we got to watch on the internet as people posted stuff like "Well we only had three people turn up for our sullust event so we just divided everything up. I got the ISD! Then we have anther one in the store down the road next week so I will get the MC80 then....!)

I can understand the frustration.

I will always remember the wave 3 announcement thanks to a certain Admiral.

That was actually a big problem. Those kits were not cheap. A good number of stores have stopped supporting Armada because they can't get enough attendance to make money off of events, and there isn't enough product volume to be worth pursuing. Add that to the fact that most stores do not even have the space to support a decent size tournament without shutting down their store.

We bought a set of the latest expansion, but there is a high probability that Armada in our area may just die due to lack of stores interested in supporting it.

Well, the big kits, like Store Champs and Regionals and such... That I can understand.

But not making profit on the regular kit? That I don't.

The standard quarterly (Seasonal) kit is $20 CAD.

Given the fact that you can split it in half and run 2 tournaments with it... Attendance of 4 people at each tournament paying $5 each quick.y gets you double your money back.

Sure, but double your money back for losing two very large tables for most of the day, then running the same kit again the next month? For a game that sells $400 MSRP every six months? Not to mention, a four person tournament tends to be very dull for the players.

Stores go for what makes them money. Since Armada doesn't make enough money, it's up to the players to build the community. Unfortunately, the overlap between people with the money to burn on Armada, and the time to burn to keep a community going is small.

The current trend of FFG products, Destiny and Legion seem to be pushing buy format and releases towards more like their competitors.

Next month? Dude, I run them Weekly when given the opportunity. It lets people cycle through it.

Fleet Patrol:

2 Rounds. 2 hour rounds. Rinse, Repeat next week. Trade excess prizes here, online, to get other excess prizes from people, so there's a variety in the kitty.

2 Rounds is Just enough of a challenge to get local people in, and not so much of a time commitment that anyone breaks down , or you lose more than 4 hours of table time in store.

Come in After Lunch, be home for Dinner!

Those rules are provided in the kit to be used!

It lets me slip between morning paint sessions and evening MT:G. I can dodge Bloodbowl tournaments and essentially provide a gaming experience that is reliable and profitable .

If I try to run a bigger tournament, more time, etc, I will encourage travellers to come in from outside of the City (and Province), but even then, we're out in the West Wasteland... There's not a huge amount of players to tap.

So I ran a poll and asked people what they want, and they want tournaments. ... So I provide tournaments. Any way I can . :) Sure, there's no grand $500 prize kit awaiting the wwinner... But there's something .

But Outside of Card Games you won't find a better structure for profitable tournaments. You just have to have some schmuck from the community put the time in! :D

We only have 1 store in the area that still buys kits to run Armada tournaments. When I first got to RTP in July 2016, all 3 stores had a community, albeit small. We had to beg the store we played at to buy kits, and even then they only got a store champ and a Q3 kit for last year. We used left overs from older kits to run a Wave 7 release, which only had 6 people show up, 2 of which are weekly regulars, 1 of which was me.

At least Vassal is growing. That will keep Armada alive for a very long time.
