Sacrificial NPC Meat Shields

By Mychal'el, in Game Masters

You could give your Rambo a fight against a group of minions when the players are on their exploratory excursion.

The group hears a couple of scouts moving through the woods ahead of them and hide. They overhear the scouts discussing the raid on the beach. Presumably your Rambo is going to want to take out two or three scouts alone in the woods.

After one hit that takes a hefty percentage of his Wound Threshold and with no way to heal, he'll be able to see he inhabits a dangerous world.

My advice is always to run the game as intended first. If, after playing RAW, you discover your table works better with a few house rules, so be it.

As for the specific bit of survivability you're looking for, look no further than the AOR GM Kit's squad and squadron rules, which literally create meat shields for important NPCs and PCs.

Yes, the redshirt rules are good for a lot of situations. And sometimes, your player will take the hit for their red shirt. I had one PC lose an arm saving a member of his squad.

So my original plan was to have a Rival redshirt die in my player's arms just to set the tone for the rest my setting.

As you can see, I've been given quite a bit of advice against that
