When I consider balance, it's a binary assessment. A thing is either balanced enough to play, or it's not. Most games are balanced. Only a very few are unplaya ble.

That's no one's definition of balanced. Not even your own which you posted earlier and just contradicted. If playable is the bar for balanced then even GW games are balanced. If that's the bar then X-wings been balanced since release even when 2 out of the 4 ships that existed were outright bad and there was only 1 dominant build. You should tell FFG they're wasting alot of time with 2e if that's what's balanced is.

You're just moving the goalposts you yourself defined earlier. It's pointless to continue this if that's what you resort to.

Now come on, that's not being fair. That's not a definition of balance, it's how I assess balance. It's a yes/no thing, not a gradient. X Wing is balanced, 40K is balanced (although it's really pushing the limits, lol) Legion is balanced, and all of them continue to be balanced at a range of points limits.

Here's a few conversions I did. Akbar and Greedo are Fleet Troopers. Blue skin gal is a re-shaped Leia and Nien Nunb is an old Traveller mini. All the heads are Shapeways "Mel's Miniatures".

The Transport is a scratchbuild that will probably just be terrain.

Cheers and happy modelling!

Better shot of Akbar and Greedo.

I gave the leader of blue unit a flag, but it's a WIP

...he asked for flamethrowers and rocketlaunchers.

not as impressive as those space marines, for the emperor! which emperor? I like that.

I've done a number of conversions now, most of which are posted up on my thread in the painting sub-forum. I won't re-post them all here, but below is the conversion I am working on currently:

Here ar some Mel Miniatures Clone Troopers. Looking forwards to fielding these. I guess I could use them as either regular troopers or commando types.

Usually in arguments about balance I find it illuminating to have folks explicitly define what balance means to them.

To me, "game balance" in wargames and RPG's means a pot of gold the end of a rainbow. It's over by the unicorns in a cabinet on the left, if you pass the mermaid you've gone too far.

Points-buy army lists and assorted player class/races and the like can only ever approximate balance. Hence the sad state of the ion guns :( A series of agreements between ladies and gentlemen, or a good Game Master, is required to achieve balance in these sorts of games. You can't put that into a rulebook. I've seen well balanced games where two people who both know the rules and are of similar intelligence will evenly grind down each other's armies and the game will hinge on a single hit point throw of the dice. But these games are much closer to boardgames than RPG's or wargames. For example they play on a grid, units can't be customized, and so on.

Want a balanced game against a perfect stranger? Play chess or something.

Want to convert cool Star Wars figures and bring them to life via games? Play Star Wars: Legion .
