Customization and Conversions

By LordUrban, in Star Wars: Legion

Has anyone tried their hand at converting their minis yet? Right now I’m staring at three identical Rebel squad leaders and I just can’t get used to the idea.

I'm Still painting my first squad, but I'm going to mix som heads and weapon arms on the next one.

Won't be that hard too do with a sharp knife and some green stuff.

Yup, some head swaps etc. Hopefully painted next week.

Very easy!

Maybe just swap the head of the Leader with the Duros!

yup...bought some heads from Mad Robot miniatures and have two helmeted troops (The heavy machine gunner and the ion gun one) the heads a little small but it's not an issue.

Ive been looking at Vader and what could be done to him but Im too afraid to just ruin the model if I try anything D:

The Duros idea is brilliant! Though maybe I’ll make one a Nemodeian instead. ;)

I swapped speeder bike helmeted head with a rebel :) now I have a rebel on a bike and a scout trooper helmeted guy like saw garreras partisan dude :)

So he stole his bike! D:

pics!!!

Aside from alternate paint schemes I'm looking at converting a few storm Troopers - cutting at the waist to repose or do leg swaps (crouching legs on a leader or DLT.) and also plan on fixing the speeder bikes with a little green stuff and plasticard so they actually look in-flight and not flaps down parked. And may even repositioning the arm from the scout holding both handlebars to look like the card art for com-link.

Rebels on the other hand have so many more possibilities! From simple head swaps, using certain IA mini's with legion parts it seems easy enough to represent Ezra and Sabine. More ambitious would be Rex and Kanan in stolen storm trooper armour. And if you carefully trim the helmet from the female rebel trooper it seems simple enough to cover up the cuts with a pair of sculpted lekku ;)

And now with rebel commandos coming out, swapping the head from the squad leader with the Duros head from the standard Troopers, well there's Shriv and Danger squad!

I bought some models from there for practice. Tried the head(s) and tiny small but ...

I also had gotten backpacks; butt packs and other random gear and it all scales. Problem is it would need someone above my pay grade in all things minis to make them "fit" onto troopers.

Yeah I've got a whole squad of Duros figures. I've change a few stormtrooper poses. It will become a little easier once they release a few more figures

I've done head swaps all around my Rebels so I now have 3 very different squad leaders, and I did repositioning and some gear adding for my Stormy squad leaders so they are all very distinct now. Will post pics later but they won't be painted yet. Scale is an issue with many things but I found 40k hands- always a bit too big for Imperial Assault figs- seem to work well. Radios and pouches and stuff are mostly scale agnostic so they work. I also swapped out the light sabers with my special lightsaber replacements to give them a better lightsaber look (will post pics of that as well).

What I REALLY need are some Twilek heads... and I discovered the Imperial Assault Greedo head is HUGE for him, so I took it off and made a Rodian Rebel Trooper. I can see a whole lot of beheaded Greedos joining my parts bin soon...

Would be nice to see a booster pack with alternate troop sculpts and several interchangeable head options down the road. For now we can only dream.

Have we had any clarification from FFG about tournament rules when it comes to conversions. I have so many ideas but am really wanting to hear something before I commit...

I've a few ideas such as converting my second Vader into an Inqusitor and a few helmetless Imperials. I plan on converting and painting up some Rebels to look like Saw Gerrera's Partisans. I don't enter tournaments so I don't care much about any restrictions FFG might have regarding conversions (such as using Vaders rules to play an Inquisitor while the rules for the latter aren't out yet), same goes for Veers, I'll be converting mine to look like a generic imperial officer or maybe Governor Pryce. Once I get to it I'll make a post with the W.I.Ps

This.

I mean my Duros models are cool and all, but they really need helmets when foraging into combat.

And Pancho (The spotter from the upcoming special forces set)... needs a face lift.

Skip to end for weapon swap stormies

I converted my 2nd rebel leader using AT-RT right arm (he has the binoculars) and a Bolt action platic SS left arm.

I cant seem to get the image working. But trust me it works :)

I really want to do a Stormtrooper unit based on SCAR from the comics. The leader should be an easy conversion, chop off Vaders hand and the troopers hand. glue. done.

I built my first Rebel unit as standard, and this is my second. Every single mini has been changed. I swapped who had the big gattling gun, did a 3-way head swap with the Duro, the Leader, and the AT-RT pilot (my second one, who now has the leaders head), and changed the poses of the ion trooper and the aiming one (the one with the separate head, which I didn't change).

I want to do this just to have Shriv from Battlefront 2 as my leader! Nice work!

I was planning on converting my storm troopers a bit but decided against it for now. If I pick up anymore units I will. As a 40k player I was concerned about this early as I'm used to all my minis looking different but after looking at 3 units of stormies side by side it's not even that noticeable especially when they will be apart on the field of battle. I think ffg found a good happy medium with the small unit sizes and 7 different mini variations. Different looking bases during the basing process helps too.
