UK System Open was tidy and well run. Don’t tarnish us with your dirty (american) brush :P Also our final was better.

As much as I hate to be that guy (I don't, this actually brings me great joy), It was not in fact a Dutch Company. The East India Trading Company was a British company specializing in procuring goods from Asia. Prior to the mid 1770's, they were by law required to sell their tea in only in London to merchants who would then sell it to the US. They had to pay a tax on all tea sold this way, and it was killing the company as there were having significant financial difficulties. A few laws were passed to help them that allowed them to sell directly to the colonies, forgo the tax sold, and collect tax sold on the tea from the colonies, implicitly having them agree to taxation from Great Britian. The colonies resisted this with a series of actions, including the smuggling of tea from Dutch Merchants. Their most notable response was the Tea Party itself, in which a group of americans dressed up as native americans, stormed the East India Company ships, and threw the tea into the harbor.

TL;DR the dutch were a supporting role and had none of their tea thrown into a harbor

Indeed - looks like a lot of the problems at the Adepticon System Open can be traced back to the calorific, extra large, ultra salty American meta!

English meta recently shifted to a low sodium diet. Much more imperial.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"the British way"

Even mediocre historical accuracy lol. do you not know what the Tea Party was? it was Americans dressed as natives dumping Dutch tea lol

I thought it was a bunch of old fat white dudes who freaked out when an African-American became the president of the United States.

This is not how it happened. The History Channel did a special on this and noted that the East India Trade Company was actually a front for a branch of the Illuminati, and they had been so successful in circumnavigating the oceans because their ships were outfitted with ancient star charts and archaic yet advanced navigational instruments from a hidden city on a small island off the ivory coast of India. The civilization on this island was wise and armed with unparalleled technological marvels and tools, and these are believed to be the relics from ancient aliens that once assisted the tribal peoples of this lost island. On their trips back from the East, these British ships would smuggle a crate or two of these ancient alien artifacts back to the Illuminati Temple in England, disguised as a simple box of tea. However, a double-agent sailor-spy stationed aboard one of these vessels reported what he had observed to the American-based Free Masons, who were not willing to allow the Illuminati to gain any more unchecked advantage from these artifacts and books of wisdom. The Masons, not wanting to reveal that they knew about these alien relics, staged the "Tea Party" to acquire some of these alien artifacts for themselves without the Illuminati realizing that they had done so. While the crates were thrown into the ocean as an economic protest, the Free Masons had every intention of recovering the crates from the bottom of the harbor and discovering the secrets contained within the shipment from the Ivory Isle. In order to retrieve the crate from the depths of the harbor, some believe that the Masons enlisted the help of a Sasquatch or "Skunk Ape," more commonly known as Bigfoot. Many expert cryptozoologists believe that sasquatches were exceptional swimmers and likely even possess extensive webbing between their limbs and body that helps them swim. This natural aquatic talent also partly explains why a specimen has not been found yet, since Sasquatches can retreat to the depths of ponds, lakes, rivers, swamps, bogs, and bays when they feel they might be detected, and with their massive lungs the creatures are capable of holding their breath for over an hour. While it is not for certain what the Founding Fathers in the Free Masons promised the Sasquatch in return for its help in retrieving the crate, the end result of this covert action was the War of Independence, which resulted in the Free Masons delivering a resounding victory to the Illuminati.

That just means they needed that many people to get enough talent at the event. Silly Europe.

What is the official FFG cut for a 500 person tournament? Top 32? LOL

If by "talent" you mean "people too salty to play the final game" then yeah, we were short on "talent"

2 out of 3 wins in the first 3 games progress to stage 2. 5 out of 6 wins in total to progress to stage 3. Stage 3 is a single elimination bracket until there is a single victor, which i think was either 32 or 64 players starting.

I think.

So little talent; if that's case.

After 6 rounds, any player with 5 or more wins progresses to Stage 3 - I believe we had 55 players with at least 5 wins at the end of day 1.

To get to a top 32, an initial elimination round was played (don't remember how many), with some buys for those with a larger MoV.

They were so good that they didn’t need the last 20 mins.

Buys for 9 players, I think.
Which list won?
Any results somewhere?

Martyn Chivers with Quickdraw, ASPTL Kylo, Epsilon Ace. No missile on QD.

Yup.

Semifinal was against control bots run by the bot master Jesper Hills. Final against Rey/Low I think?

Isn't the UK off the coast of Canada? Or is that North Korea...

Good on Martyn. Any word on what his matchups were throughout the day? It sounds like he went in hard against Kanan/Biggs, but left himself open to stress control.

Not other than the final and semi, personally. But I'd be surprised if he didn't see Fenn/Ghost at least once, there were a lot of them in the cut.

At a Adepticon, only 31 players made 5-1 or 6-0 to advance to day 2. Carson of Radio TCX was #32 (and 4-2) at the end of day 1, so he got his top 32 prize and then was cut. They gave the #1 seed a bye for the first round.

In regard to this comment and your comparison thread, I was there and there was zero salt on that final. Just the opposite, it was hilarious and fun. They just realized the futility of the slap-fight they were engaged in and didn't see the point in setting dials and doing no damage until time was called.

You can argue that the European meta is "better" or even that the European community is "better", but I don't think you should try to characterize William or Andrew or the situation in any sort of light when you weren't there.

No one is arguing that any meta or community is "better". And don't worry, I'm not trying to cast any kind of shade on either player - the above comment was nothing more than a joke, poking fun at the situation in the final along with other such tongue-in-cheek comments in this topic.

Your comment does however serve to highlight the point I've been trying to make a little; you're right, I wasn't there. The impression I have of the Hoth Final and the event itself comes from the posts made by attendees on the forum. So does my impression of the communities as a whole to a larger extent, from comments and reactions on the forum and from commentaries, podcasts, event reviews etc. If I'm getting a less-than-favourable or inaccurate impression of the event from those sources, why is that?

Glad to hear you had a great time at Hoth, btw.

Maybe because those posters weren't there? I heard the Twitch chat was freaking out, too.

From what I gather listening to a lot of the podcasts and being at just a few large events, a lot of these top players know each other pretty well. That Hoth final table was surrounded by a bunch of other players who have been at plenty of top tables themselves, and they were all joking with each other and laughing at the absurdity of it all. When they're salty, it's about the state of the game, not about each other. At least, that's the impression I get.

It literally does say that. Of course, that's not the same as meaning it literally.
