Adepticon 2018 attendance and results?

By cleardave, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Is anyone from our merry community participating in the Adepticon tournament for our plucky little game?

Fill us in so we can live vicariously through your experiences. Any takers on an over/under number for the tournament's attendance? I'll call 32.5 based on precisely zero data and wild speculation.

I'm here at Adepticon and I didn't even know there was an IA tournament happening.

@defkhan1

According to this News update, it's happening today.

I participated, there were 6 players. I won my first match and was paired down to play some xwing podcaster who thoroughly stomped me, leaving one guy at 2-0. Tournament stopped after that as none of us really wanted to really jack the standings. Gordon is a great guy though :)

I played my store champs list of IG88, eJawa, chopper, 3P0, BT1, HKs, and Vinto.

I ended up with some e-web dual sided cardboard cards, a diala spot gloss, and a Fenn spot gloss. Winner won lots!

Good haul! I'm looking for an e-web card if you want to part with one, send me a message.

Too bad the event was not scheduled well. FFG is clearly still focussing on hyping Legion.

I love you too, Conley :)

Gordon is the worst!

I am really disappointed in the poor advertisement of the tournament. The state of this game is fragile with FFG taking their sweet time with the next announcement.

I think they recognize it for what it is, a fringe game with a die-hard dedicated core, but they haven't the time or resources to make the commitment and make skirmish into what it should be. A bigger and better following. Maybe because they decided Legion had bigger potential to bring in dividends and they don't have to parlay with Hasbro.

It's certainly feels a very strange way to do business. At this point it almost seems that they wanted to kill it off in favour of Legion but didn't have the balls to say it directly so are happy to let it fizzle and die without lifting a finger. This way they can now legitimately say that the following is too small to keep it viable and focus on Legion instead.

Hope I'm proved wrong though!

I'm starting to agree. Legion helps them to fill that Warhammer void for them (from wikipedia)...

In 2008, FFG partnered with Games Workshop to represent Warhammer and Warhammer 40K settings in role-playing, board, and card games.[1] FFG announced the end of that partnership on September 9, 2016. Effective February 28, 2017, FFG no longer offers for sale any games made in conjunction with Games Workshop.[2]

And since Imperial Assault is a board game, the issue with Hasbro likely does lead to some complacency. (Also from Wikipedia)....

In August 2011, Fantasy Flight Games acquired the license for card, miniature and role-playing games set in the Star Wars universe.

I'm of the idea that they can release one medium-big set a year and maybe some fringe releases and keep the skirmish side going for years to come though. They already have pared down the number of man-hours committed to it. If they keep releasing quality sets, I'm okay with that. If nothing else, I get time to fully explore every deployment. I don't get to play every week and still have not played double weequay and really haven't played gamorreans and a bunch of other figures from Jabba's Realm. I haven't played all the Bespin figures or HoTE either. So I'm okay with a bit of space between them. There are tons of maps they haven't used yet so from a competitive standpoint there's still a lot of variance.

For me its not the space between. Its just the **** silence. They would squash all the howling if they just said something simple like, "Keep your pants on we have a release set for May 4th " or something like that

I'd prefer a once-a-year box expansion and A/V packs released twice or three times a year. One of those A/V packs should be some sort of Imperial non-Unique figure pack (Troopers, a Vehicle) so that the Imperial skirmish meta isn't restricted.

That would be more physical content than we got pre app, or at least on par. I don't think that will happen anymore. Expect physical content to take a backseat now that app content is being developed at the same time. Like I said in the other thread, 2018 will set the tone on the "new norm" for IA content.

One box expansion (maybe a new "medium" box?), one blister wave (slightly modified from the norm, might be more multi figures or just a bigger wave in general), and two app releases, perhaps a campaign and a challenge mode of types. That is my very uneducated guess. :)

Just curious I wonder what the average regional turn out is for a game like x wing or destiny in the same cities that did IA. I was surprised at how small some regionals were in what I thought were big centres.

I know at my lgs tournaments x wing filled up fast at 24 with a waiting list and destiny had Almsot the same. But I couldn't even get 6 for a regional.

The Michigan X-Wing regional ran about 135. The IA regional was 21. We didn't have a destiny one close. I think it was Toledo Ohio, but I don't know the numbers.

Canadian Nationals 2018

Imperial Assault - 25

Destiny - 70

X-wing - 136 (over 2 days plus a final day)

I know I may be biased, but in all honesty, the Imperial Assault players seemed to have the best overall experience. There was A LOT of drama with X-wing and Destiny just seemed like "meh".

Edited: Oops! You asked about Regionals. Here's what I've seen:

Imperial Assault :16-20

Destiny: 30-50

X-wing : 90-120 (usually over 2 days with a final day)

Florida's regional for x-wing and IA were held in the same place. I wasnt able to attend x-wing but I did make the IA regional.

X-Wing had 79

IA had less than half. Probably in the range of 28-40, sorry I know its vague. There were plenty of issues that day that has been covered and I dont want to start again.

Denver had 77 for X-Wing this year (up from last year)
IA was 16 - which is more than we've ever had for IA. ****, people flew in for this one! I think there were only 8 locals (and one local running it)

It wasn’t advertised because FFG/Cascade Games was not the one running it, it was another third party.

That makes a little more sense but I would still think whoever is running it would want people to play.

I agree, I would have wanted more people to play as well. As it was, there was only 16 slots available for the tournament, 4 round max to get someone as champion of the tournament. I had to search for it on the event page, and only searched because I had played a couple years prior at Adepticon's IA tournament put on by FFG (I think it was put on by FFG).
