Great Big Legion Slang/Abbrv Topic

By UnitOmega, in Star Wars: Legion

So, Legion just came out, I think it's high time we started building an obscure and opaque dictionary of terms which new people don't know until they look at a topic like this /s. I'm sure people already have names for all their favorite tactics and stuff, so let's have a topic about it. Shared language can be useful for a community also.

Personally I've been using "suppression snipe" to describe using a long range attack to stack Suppression tokens on enemy units from afar. And "camping" or "corner camping" to describe hiding Fleet Troopers (but theoretically anybody) out of LOS with Standby tokens, ready for enemies to show up. You could probably extend this into another FPS tactic, the "bum bait" where you have another friendly unit hang their *** out to trick the enemy into thinking it's an easy kill, but your main unit is waiting for them.

Another term I'd like to see widely adopted was used by @Big Easy in another topic, "Over The Top" for crossing over a barricade or other cover to advance, a reference to WW1 tactics.

Also, not a Legion specific term, but something people may find useful; Enfilade and Defilade refer to the condition of a military unit being vulnerable to enemy observation and fire. Enfilade means you can be seen and shot, defilade means you are in a state where you are protected, very important when discussing Legion and you want some tacticool words for it.

List Form:

  • BBQ Chicken = AT-RT w/ Flamethrower
  • Camping = Waiting outside LOS and using Standby Tokens to attack.
  • Chicken Little = Naked AT-RT
  • Chicken Run = List with high number of AT-RTs who advance in tandem
  • Dead Men (DM) = Engaging in a melee with Darth Vader
  • Dead Range = Ending a movement in range of Darth Vader's melee reach
  • Defilade = Being hidden from view and fire from enemy units
  • Enfilade = Being vulnerable to sight and fire from enemy units
  • Ewoking = Killing an AT-ST without anti-armor weapons
  • Hawkbat Swoop = When Luke jumps over terrain to make a charging attack and pops back into safety right after.
  • Laser Chicken = AT-RT w/ Laser Cannon
  • Lumberjacking = Killing an AT-ST with a melee attack
  • Meerkating = Moving in to LOS with Snowtroopers, firing, then moving back out of LOS
  • Over The Top (OTT) = Crossing over cover to advance to a new position
  • Overwatch = Standby (usually to attack)
  • Rotisserie Chicken = AT-RT w/ Rotary Cannon
  • Saber Scythe (SS) = Losing half a unit to a Lightsaber
  • Suppression Snipe = Engaging at long range only to give suppression tokens
  • Vader's Death Ball (VDB) = The act of using Vader to create a large ball of troopers which cannot be suppressed into fleeing the battle. Also "Vader's Elastic Death Ball (VE-DB)"
  • Yank and Spank (YnS) = Force Pull into range then melee

And Force Pulling you into melee with him, which can then be joined by a stormtrooper squad

Saber Scythe: losing half a unit to a Saber Throw. "I was CCing out of LoS of the VDB when I was saber scythed down to two men."

Dead Range: accidentally leaving a model within 6.34 inches of Vader. "Aw sh** I just DRd my AT-RT"

Dikchead jankmaster - someone who brings triple rotary at-rts

meerkating - jumping into los, shooting and then jumping out with snowtroopers

Shooting Gallery - A fight between meerkating Snowtroopers and any ranged unit using all their actions to shoot the meerkats

Target practice - rebel scum

Ewoking. Killing an ATST without anti vehicle weapons.

Lumberjacking. Killing an ATST with a melee attack.

Leap of Poor Faith (LoPF) - Flinging Luke at Vader with no support whatsoever.

Got some great ones from @Rocmistro in an AT-RT topic:

  • Chicken Little (Naked AT-RT)
  • BBQ Chicken (AT-RT w/ Flamer)
  • Rotisserie Chicken (AT-RT w/ Rotary)

I suggested "Chicken Gun" for AT-RT w/ Cannon, and "Chicken Run" for a mass of AT-RTs moving together.

Yank and Spank (YnS). -- Force pull into melee range and then attack.

Let me rephrase that then:

Vader's Death Ball (VDB): The act of using Vader to create a large ball of troopers which cannot be suppressed into fleeing the battle.

Hawkbat Swoop = When Luke jumps over terrain to make a charging attack and pops back into safety right after.

Fried Chicken--ATRT with an ion token.

Stealing this from another thread, the 6+-style save on the AT-RT and the like, white dice with no surge, or just white dice in general.

It may not be as flashy, but LaseRT actually does a good job describing the Laser Cannon ATRT when you're writing your battle report and don't want to repeat yourself :P
