Dim Carcosa Clue/Doom issue

By Soakman, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hello!

I ran into a problem during set-up. We haven't started and won't until much later (I'm setting up for time and location reasons), but during set-up the locations are all revealed and you are supposed to put clues on them equal to their clue value.

One problem: I only ever bought a single core-set and we have a 3 player game going. We don't really want to mix our tokens, but we don't even have enough clue/dooms for set-up, let alone during the game as doom is added to the Agenda.

1. I hope they add more tokens to the deluxe box of the Forbidden Age

2. What do you guys use as replacement doom/clues? I could fish for pieces out of other games, but I don't really want to because something will inevitably get put in the wrong box. Any ideas? I know I can literally use anything, but I was hoping you might have some ideas of something I might be able to sub in a pinch without having to go out and purchase something extra.

Not going to lie, I'm a little annoyed that I don't have enough. I understand that one core is only for 1-2 players and we're using 3, so I assume that's where the problem lies, but my friend has another set; we just don't want to mix and count out tokens later.

Also, hoping this thread serves as a warning if there is someone with one core hosting and expecting the other players to just bring their cards. You may want to request they bring tokens as well depending on what you prefer.

So...

You bought a game that states that it only supports 1-2 players. You're playing with 3 players, which is causing a shortage of tokens. You have access to extra tokens, but just don't want to use them?

Kinda sounds like this problem is 100% caused by you and 100% solvable by you. In other words, doesn't really sound like a problem.

For a more useful response, maybe consider using dice for location clues and doom.

We use dice. With four players, stacking 12 clues is too annoying.

I am fully aware and am not saying there is a problem with the game; I'm saying it could be mildly inconvenient for people who aren't expecting the entire token bag of clues to be gone and then some during set-up. Not every gaming group will regularly have every player bring their own tokens, and most players will not bring their entire kit considering most of the scenario cards would be redundant.

Was just looking to see what other people do who have this problem. Not criticizing the game.

That's actually a good solution I hadn't really considered. I often use dice as subs for other things, but hadn't though about them with clues for some reason.

Dice work well. We play with 4 people and a lot of time 2 of those people just show up with their investigator deck. So lack of tokens can be an issue with any scenario.

Dice help a lot with limiting token issues.

We sometimes use pennies in place of resource tokens. They're pretty cheap and easy to come by. My bank sells them at 100 for a dollar. Sadly, they don't do bulk discounts and never put the pennies on sale.
