What is the worst location you played a game of X-Wing?

Honestly the hot sauce is so awesome these days I had forgotten about the pepper's power hahaha

A store champs in a Tesco supermarket. I felt exposed. I won the tournament at least but I’d never go back.

A regional in Toronto last year. They went above and beyond what they could do with the space that they had, but it was a very, very hot summer day with 70+ people sweating and no air conditionner. The toilet was litterally glistening with gamer sweat that was condensating against its cold surface. I'm not even kidding...

Wow, I am absolutely loving this thread!

For the first year, I was convinced this was a coffee shop game. I usually played X-Wing with just a core set at a super busy, loud coffee shop with my dad and/or brother. I think the Senator's Shuttle mission was the best.

The mess deck of an ice breaker on the Great Lakes.

How did that work out? Considering how much trouble with shifting pieces some people seem to have on solid ground how much worse could it be on a boat that gets tossed around.

Breaking ice there’s more vibration than rocking or pitching. It shakes hard enough to move the pieces, and it’s so loud you have to learn to play without talking.

We tried to have our games when we were hove to (parked) in the ice for the night, but some nights the captain never stopped.

He was probably already stressed.

I'm not a boat person but being on icebreaker seems like it could be the thing of nightmares for some.

As for not wanting to stop for the night I could see where in may be preferable to "say moving" than it would be to get froze in and then work at getting started again. At least I've got to think that it generally easier to keep going than it is to get going.

A store championship at a dungeon-like store. The T.O. of a tournament unilaterally decided that the final would be played on a 6x6 map with 3-D terrain from another table top war game. You can't make that s#it up. The top 2 players decided to shake on it and not play.

Was the time limit reduced to an hour because of all the set up time required for the match?

My second ever tournament was played on a very, very windy day in a lovely community hall. I was a hair's breadth aways from winning a 3-player free for all casual game after the tournament had finished when someone opened a side door. The wind caught an edge of the mat, which promptly flew off the table, spewing plastic crack everywhere.

Oh NO! Those people need to take a look at https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/271331-final-table-and-players-wont-play/ because refusing to play seems like a major crime.

It’s hard to fit the right words into a post that wouldn’t result in TLDR.

Yes, it’s easier to keep moving than start moving. That’s physics. It’s especially true when the substance you’re pushing through can be harder than concrete.

Icebreaking is a nightmare, but I’m proud of my time on that ship. In a cold enough winter the ice breakers on the Great Lakes are up against time and the forces of nature to prevent an international economic crisis. Icebreaking isn’t glamorous, but it’s vitally important to the North American economy.

Put a hair-dryer into the hands of every single out-of-work auto worker, and put them out on the ice, thawing their asses off. Drop unemployment, stimulate the hair-dryer economy, and made people feel good about themselves and their contribution to 'Murica.

This is a tremendously good plan. The best. Anybody who doesn't think so, I'll fight you.

In the parking lot behind the store.

In the beating sun in August, 93 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a Store Championship that oversold the space.

In case it wasn't clear, all of those occurred at the same time.

Hey, at least you weren't in the pizza place, if we're talking about the same Store Championship.

my local game store (although calling that is a stretch) in the back room with flickering dim florescent lights right next to a stinky bathroom with no AC in Sunny South Carolina in the summer... BTW the NON-local stores over in the next City are all great...

Toys n Things, Danvers, MA, 2017.

I had another round in the pizza place, and I still think the parking lot took the cake. The cafe at least had shade. It was the kind of day where it was honestly a health hazard to be out in the sun for 75 minutes straight.

Small game convention in Kentucky. Tournament took place during an open bar event...so we were all lit...beer may have been spilled at some point.

Ok...maybe it wasn't so bad

There was once a Store Championship (Ohio, I believe) I remember hearing about a couple years ago that had 3x3 tables for the event. That's right, exactly 3x3. Where do you put your cards, tokens, deck, and templates at such an event? That's right, on the floor by your feet. Same as your opponent. And everyone else there...

That does sound horrible. I've played in close quarters where there was little elbow room, but what you have described sounds like a nightmare.
