Core set Rebel Victory against Jabbas Palace Content Scum

By topacesteve, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hello, i would like to note that speaking on generic rebel units , the big box expansions gave us absolutely nothing worthy.

Small boxes gaves us Alliance smuggler , Rebel saboteur (already in Core set , just the Elite)

Yesterday i made a deck of mainly Core Set (i only used Rogue Smuggler and Elite saboteurs from expansion) plus MHD19 from Hoth.

The deployments were : Solo (RS) , 2x eRebel Saboteurs, Gideon, 3p0 , MHD19, 2x Alliance Smugglers, Targeting Computer. We played on Pit of Carkoon and i managed to destroy fully equipped scum with : Jabba, eClawdite, IG-88, Onar Koma, R2-D2. MHD-19.

I want to note that i NEVER used the Rogue Smuggler text in this game so i could even not include it, gaining the much more important (in my opinion) Distracting ability.

In the current meta of eSentries (killer units indeed) , eWeequays, the eAlliance Rangers pale in comparison , are extra expensive and you get the worst surge blue dice to try to squeeze 4 surges out of the card (impossible of course).

FFG give us decent generic rebel units NOW with 3 dice default.....we want NEW TROOPERS !!! how about SAW GERRERAs rebels???? Heavy weapon - Trooper?

i would also like to note that my opponent is EXTREMELY CAPABLE and has great knowledge of the game, and once he made a 8-0 victory against me

I disagree. All of the units you mentioned are top notch.

Besides You got Rebel troopers in the core set and they self focus for 3 dice attack.

I'm excited for your victory, but I feel like the title of this article is a little misleading. You said it's a Core Set Rebel list, but you used a conglomeration of Han's original deployment card and the Rogue Smuggler costing. You used 2 alliance smugglers, C3PO, MHD, and Targeting Computer, all of which are not Core Set items. The FAQ'd Elite Rebel Saboteurs didn't come in the Core Set either. It's also not surprising that you won given the list you were playing against. IG88 typically wants at least 7 activations so he can go last. Jabba doesn't contest objectives, and R2 wants to be at terminals, so that puts a ton of stress on your opponents figures already. Simply put, his list only has 3 attackers, whereas you have at least 5 and you have more figures that can contest objectives. With targeting computer there is a good chance your Sabs can stun IG which wrecks havoc on his list. I would give your list the edge unless he draws all his Hunter cards and blaze of glory super early.

Alliance Rangers are quite competitive, based on the number of Regionals that they have won, I don't know how you can disagree with the statistics there and say they are a poor unit. You must recognize that even though they cost more, activating 3 figures at once can kill lots of things, and they have all of the awesome trooper and hunter cards at their disposal (which are 2 of the best traits in the game right now). At 7 health, unlike weequays at 6, they are likely to die from being 1 shot (1 health makes a huge difference at this breaking point).

I would agree with your assessment that Rebels need more lost cost troopers. I would love to see Heavy Weapon love as well to help other figures like Drokkatta also get a boost. Fingers crossed!

This is great news but "I best my friend in skirmish so this list is tops" isn't really sufficient evidence... but glad you had fun!

eRangers are by far the best 3 figure unit in the game ...

I have to say though even though I would phrase it differently, perhaps not draw conclusions from low amounts of games (?) and totally disagreement about the Alli Rangers that the OP has a Point.

Deployment-wise there are very few prime pieces in expansion boxes for rebels. Rangers, Jedi Luke, c3po, Alliance smuggler, Han etc are all ally packs. Then there are other dimensions to this. The bix boxes command cards and fix cards are adding a lot of value. But all and all, the deployments in the expansion boxes for rebels are less then awesome. I hope the next expansion is Rebel-focused.

Edit: However, Ko-Tun is right there on the fence as an awesome piece though and Dot is a cool piece too.

Rebel group figures have never been included in box expansions because the campaign is Heroes vs Imperials so they wouldn't be much use for anyone playing just the campaign.

True, but that does not make it a good rule. :)

I would love a campaign where the empire has the "heroes" and Rebels and mercs team up to be the "1 villain player"

That’d be so awesome. It would also give Imperials some much needed lower cost uniques.

The hard thing to do with that is the box would be trying to keep the campaign contained all in the big box. Even big boxes generally only have 3 types of figures plus a large figure for Imperials/Mercs. If the campaign for the box was going to be self contained you’d be playing against 3 types of figures plus occasionally something massive unless they required some blister packs for the Rebels to be bought along with the campaign.

I for one would love a 2.0 hoth box with a bunch of rebels vs an 2x2 ATAT.

Wouldn’t the scale for the AT-AT be really off? After looking at Legion the next vehicle I really want is some of those AT-RTs. They look like they’d fit right into IA on a 2x2 base.

Yeah and finally a vehicle unit for rebels that can use overrun!

Yes, the scale would be way off. The real scale of an ATAT should be something like 7x3 or maybe even greater.

But it would be awesome in my book. A 40 point unstoppable menace for the rebels to try to stop. :)
