What is with all the hype about adding a third faction? Either A. There are a lot of X-Wing players in here that want Legion to be like X-Wing or B. Are afraid of the Clone Wars. Having a third faction won't make the game competitive and just kills the story arc (in my opinion) that we are getting with OP. There also shouldn't be a "neutral" faction either, just makes lists harder to build and could create confusion and make those die hard Star Wars fans turn away from the game. Also if you have only 3 factions, doesn't seem appealing to someone new to the game, especially if that faction doesn't fight for a "true purpose."

I'm not butt hurt about this, just confused why it's being wanted. This game isn't like X-Wing and shouldn't. It's purely ground combat and I can't recall when I saw a majority of gangs teaming up together to fight for a specific reason they were all behind...willingly.

FFG should release as much as they can from the Galactic Civil War and then either move to either A. the Clone War or B. FO v. Resistance.

Or go into the new incoming trilogy.

I also expect only 2 have 2 main factions, wookies, sullustans... are just races of the rebellion side. And scum and mercery could join as special forces to rebels or empire side.

Why would it kill the story?

The whole Star Wars universe didnt revolve round the Rebellions struggle with the empire.

We know from the films that there are other powerful groups at work.

Im all for rebels and Empire...brilliant...but why would introducing further forces which are from SW hurt anything?

I think alot of people would complain if they're constantly facing off against the same 4 EU units that are entirely overpowered and have a faction all of their own.

well actually a scum faction is justified: Hutt cartel and the remnants of Black Sun are still a powerful player in the galactic civil war era. The Empire simply had to face more often rebels than pirates, yet pirates were still a problem.

Then dont make them overpowered. Thats simple.

Nobody is asking for overpowered armies that put the empire/rebels in the shade, just choice and variation to reflect the SW universe.

Let's stick to just 2 factions for the time being.

2 factions worked fine for armada while 3 factions unbalanced x-wing forever.

The first expansions havent even been relased yet, why do we even want an entirely different faction this early?

While I'm not against more factions, I'm in favour of GCW era content, and if that means Scum & pirates I'm all for it wether is a faction by themselves or neutral units "for hire".

But for now what matters is that with the new flow of content the rebellion and the empire will be well supplied for quite some time.

From my point of view, the problem with scum faction is that in order for them to be profitable for the FFG, they will have to be somewhat overpowered. I am guessing that the average Star Wars fan would choose the iconic rebel or the empire factions to buy, unless the Scum offers a significant power level advantage. But lets wait and see for now, I don't figure Legion will get stale so soon with two iconic factions.

IF it's going to happen, can it at least wait until we run out of GCW Empire and Rebellion units.

Once there is nothing left in cannon for either, it MIGHT be time for another faction.

The "Next faction please!" posts should at least wait for the game to be released, if people HAVE to demand more stuff.

Mandolorians are probably the only exeption, having enough military hardware to stand up to both sides of the GCW.

They should probably wait until wave 4 though, give the game some time to evolve first.

I love SW, if they announced a wave of Hutt forces tomorrow arriving in October, id buy it straight away regardless of how powerful it was

I want it all, Hutts, Bespin defence force (or any other planetary force), all the stuff from the original trilogy.

Further down the line id like to see other time periods, but not yet. Other time periods too early imo would cause problems.

its not a case of if but when. the GCW has pretty much been exhausted already for legion. unless they go into EU or scum there isnt much else to be released

Infantry based wargames traditionally have more than just two factions, and why does a "Scum" faction have to be overpowered or prevent FFG from ALSO releasing Clone wars era armies? The Clone Wars cartoon has a few examples of "Scum" factions in it as well, such and Hondo's pirate band.

Also, FFG don't need to wait until they are "done" with Empire and Rebels, I'd like the initial factions to have enough units to provide each force org slot with options, but don't feel they need to exhaust everything before they start adding other factions to the game.

people have said that ffg want to release an expansion each month. so for rebels we have echo troopers, rebel commandos and maybe some special units like engineers. imperials have death troopers, imperial navy, scout troopers and maybe royal guards. that will maybe last 6 months after that i hope you like expanded universe or new trilogy stuff

There's so many storm trooper variants that it would be hard to entirely run out of them. On the other hand, the Rebellion would need to dig deep to find more canon types of trooper.

The support and heavy slots for both factions have pleanty of room to expand and it's not hard to find commanders for either side.

Even when we run out of Canon units, the empire and the rebels both have a wide veriaty of legends troopers and vehicles to draw from before we absolutley NEED another faction.

Armada is rebels vs empire and it’s perfect. I don’t care if they release other factions for legion, I just wouldn’t buy them. Star Wars is about the empire fighting the alliance. The prequels were so awful that I hope to never see them in this game but if they show up, I just wouldn’t buy them.

...or C. People enjoy the pirate/bounty hunting/crime syndicate aspect of the Star Wars universe and want to see that part of the GCW explored before moving into new eras.

To respond to your points though - I’d actually love to see Clone Wars era stuff (CIS would actually be my first choice among armies if I was able to choose one from any point in SW). Not sure how adding scum would kill the story in Star Wars. They’re a part of so many story arcs in the movies, TV shows, comics, and novels that it’d be difficult to list them. And if you’re having trouble coming up with examples of scum assembling twenty troops and a couple vehicles to fight with... you’re REALLY not trying. As far as a third faction not appealing to new players getting into the game - I personally know two people who are waiting to get the game until scum comes out.

In the end though you’re right... FFG should release as much from the GCW as they can before moving onto a new era. And unless you ignore Episodes 4/5/6, Rebels, the comics, and the novels, “Scum” plays a big part in that conflict

Wow there’s a lot more than that for each side. You didn’t mention vehicles at all. Plenty of bounty hunters for the empire to employ as well. Empire has shore troopers plus new units from the Han Solo film. There’s a good two years of releases for the empire and rebellion.

Theres also Jumptroopers and their rebellion counterpart Jettroopers.

These two trooper types seem to be rarely used for what is probably a very sigificant type of trooper IU.

bounty hunters will either be commanders or a special forces unit. i forgot the shore troopers. I honestly forgot about the solo movie lol maybe there will be new stuff there. are there any other vehicles for the rebels or imperials from the OT films that arent going to be massive (AT-AT)?
