Crashed Stuff

I made things.

Both models are the cheap 5 - 6 € Revell level 3 kits.

Love this!

Those poor speeder pilots....

Those look great! Love the mossy overgrowth on them.

Any idea how close in scale that Snowspeeder is? Online the box said 1/52 scale. That should be almost perfectly aligned to the actual Legion model right?

Judging by the pilots I think this is a lot smaller.

The TIE is 1:110. That feels a bit closer to the right scale.

Because they were too short to be stormtroopers?

I remember Polda's painting thread from the IA section of the board. His painted minis are OP and MUST be nerfed, they MUST be.

Beautimuss!

The Bandai Snowspeeder is an ideal size at 1:48. So is the Revell Snap-Tite Resistance A-wing.

I'd like a 1:48 X-wing wreck, but the $100 kits I see are not worth it.

I have a 1:48 Bandai Snowspeeder. Was gonna build it and use it as crashed terrain like OP. But if the 1:52 scale advertised on this Revell model is accurate, then it should be even closer to Legion's actual scale - not to mention cheaper and easier to assemble.

Revell 1:52 vs Legion

Edited by mini78

I will have AT-AT wrecks and would like an X-wing wreck, but price tells me to get the Revell model. I want to see the Disney models first. I read they were $20 somewhere. I will double check when I go to Downtown Disney in a couple of weeks.

Can anyone using the tie fighters as terrain post a pic with some troopers next to one for scale?

The Bandai Speeder is 1:48 and from everything I've seen is perfect scale, and I'm a scale snob for my own stuff.

EDIT: as others have posted, the Bandai Speeder is noticeably bigger than Legion's. The Legion one actually seems a bit small compared to the troopers, but for gameplay I actually prefer that with bigger units so they don't overwhelm the table.

As crashed wreckage the Bandai should be close enough to fool even the discerning eye, but holding them side by side it is quite obvious. On the table maybe it's just because the flying one is at higher altitude! :D

Also, model makers should be in a mad dash to release and re-release models in this scale. Sales would get a noticable bump from Legion terrain makers.

I don’t have a pic on me but the Bandai speeder is just a bit bigger than the Legion model, whereas based on the Revell pic above, that model is just a bit smaller.

I may end up going with the Revell since it’s easier to assemble and cheaper for terrain

Crashed wrecks also help distract the eye from differences in size (to an extent), because the brain will fill in extra length under the ground.

@Caimheul1313 yep that’s exactly my plan just gonna build up dirt to the edges of the speeder to obscure the size differences. There’s another picture on the boards here that I’m looking to imitate where the trail from the speeder skidding to a halt becomes a trench essentially.

Also want to paint up one of those Revell FO TIEs as an Imperial TIE and use it much in the way OP has here

@OMGBRICK Then you'll have a handy explanation for the scars on your Luke model's face!

(For those who aren't aware, rumor has it that after Mark Hamill crashed his car in 1977, scenes were added to the part of Empire on Hoth to explain where Luke got the scars).

The Wampa smack to the face :)

Couldn't remember if it was that or the Speeder crash. Wampa makes more sense. Or course they took out the scene that shows us C3-P0 is a cold, calculating Mfer.... (he removes a warning sign from a door that warns about Wampa. Snowtroopers later open the door, one is yanked in, the other shuts the door quickly).

This is a Revell first order snap together. It's the one with lights and sounds. Supposedly about 1:52 and I think perfect for legion.

1:52 would be slightly small, but I always have to wonder how meticulous a model-maker is with both their scale estimations and their fidelity to the subject. In the end, for wargaming terrain, especially wrecks like this I suspect it won't make that much difference.

Nicely done on the battle damage, and I like the added foliage.

the legion model is in the wrong scale anyway, too big. the revel model looks about right
