Suggestion for optional tourney format w/ no game rules changes: Fast(er) play Armada

Another annoying reoccurring topic....

When you brought the **** game and after learning the rules and playing a few games, you knew that each game will be taking 2-3hrs or less.

Its clearly marked on the pack, so if your gonna complain about the game time, no matter the context, im just gonna shake my head.

However that my opinion so ill play your game.

HOW CAN WE REDUCE GAME TIME?

My suggestion: a dice rolling app that doesnt have 3 second useless animations of a dice tumbling around a screen.

Ok so hear me out here. In the game each time we roll dice we spend about 5-10 seconds after picking up the dice (im not counting the time to select dice) to shake them around in our hands hoping for the perfect roll, then releasing the dice, watching them tumble about before getting the results.

Lets say we have a fleet of 4 ships and 5 squadrons. Just lets for argument sakes say thats our fleet, say a AFmk2, 2 cr90s and a neb, then 3 Xwings and 2 Ywings, thats a simple enough fleet.

Thats up to 13 times we gather dice a round (possibly more depending on the fleet, like if we have Awings with counter)

13×5 (or 10) = 65 (130) seconds of dice rolling.

Now lets add an extra 2 seconds for dice rerolls

13×2= 26 sec.

So for 4-5 rounds were spending up to 156 seconds (or more) on dice.

Now imagine a dice rolling app where, not counting the selecting dice section same as above, you tap roll and get the instant result, then select the dice needed and press reroll. This would save 2-3 out of 5 seconds.

(13×2) + 13 = 39 seconds now to roll dice.

Suddenly yor saving 2 minutes a round, about 10min a game.

Thats a significant improvement right?

I mean your no longer feeling the anticipation of the roll, the joy of actually rolling dice but i mean thats no longer important to the game, we only want shorter games after all.

-_- ok maybe the comment is overboard but still, if you want fast games theres Xwing, or maybe legion from what ive heard (not a lot cause im not interested it in the slightest :P )

Also, I always found “no premeasuring” kinda dumb...

This should be a game of tactics, not “How accurately can you judge distances and measurements”

Particularly when its hi tech stuff with large computer systems.

But on the topic of squad placement, I wish we were allowed to use some kind of token to place and measure to, then pick up the squad and swap it with the token. Even better if the token were a clever bracket or something that the squad would fit next to nicely, so you would be measuring to the negative space of the token or some such. But the rule about only one tool at a time kills even doing it on our own initiative.

In the time it took me on my phone to type that comment we moved onto squadron measuring, holy cow!

:D
