Vynder, QuickDraw, and a Delta

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What do you think of this list? QD and the Delta joust and Vynder flanks.

Major Vynder — Alpha-class Star Wing 26
Push the Limit 3
Homing Missiles 5
Advanced SLAM 2
Os-1 Arsenal Loadout 2
Ship Total: 38
"Quickdraw" — TIE/sf Fighter 29
Trick Shot 0
Fire-Control System 2
Lightweight Frame 2
Special Ops Training 0
Ship Total: 33
Delta Squadron Pilot — TIE Defender 30
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1
TIE/x7 -2
Ship Total: 29

Looks good.

A few things to tighten it up. Harpoons on Vynder and lose the twin ions mk.ii on delta and that frees up two points for a tech on Quickdraw.

Overall though, a nice beefy list.

Hmmmmm..... but in playtesting I find that my other ship find themselves in range one of enemy ships A LOT.

It's going to happen. You could VI vinder, to bring him to PS 9, than do a score to settle on QD. That would let you poon at PS 9, than QD can push a crit thru. I know you wouldn't have PTL, but it would push alot more damage thru. And it's lighter on points. you could tech QD, or, you could get a higher PS defender.

With the number of times I've flown the starwing, I've found that the lighter in points it is, the better off you usually are. I flew a QD, Vinder, Dormitz list at a store tournament, and everyone went for Vynder first. Quickdraw was the heavier of the 2, pointwise, but people just hate starwings.

Hmmmm... the changes you are suggesting leave three points - enough for Targeting Synchronizer on QD. Too bad TS doesn't work with the GUNBOAT title.

I would say advanced optics, sensor cluster, or primed thrusters, and an initiative bid, that would be my personal choice. Bids are a good choice if you're running 2 PS 9's.

I love optics because Quickdraw can just carry a focus token around and use it for defense. Spreading her shields out as much as possible is huge for her.

sensor cluster QD is great, control the shield loss, also maybe a TLT boat, I know its boring, but its cheap enough for expertise on QD along with 'poons, you would have to drop PTL to something else like VI, but otherwise mostly buffs QD and Vynder. also the nature of TLT will prevent getting to close in R1

I've tried Vynder VI and I just don't know. I really seems like she's dramatically short on actions, and many times the needed action is a focus for defense.

However, I think I am sold on going with ASTS instead of Trickshot. That really allows me to get a more offense joust on the initial engagement, and have a focus for defense. I've never tried ASTS before, do you have a strategy on target selection?

Omega Specialist (25)
A Score to Settle (0) , Fire-Control System (2)
Lightweight Frame (2) , Special Ops Training (0)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Adaptability (0) , Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1) , TIE/x7 (-2)

Major Vynder (26)
Push the Limit (3) , Harpoon Missiles (4) , Advanced SLAM (2) , Os-1 Arsenal Loadout (2)

Total: 100

A couple different pilots but same ships. I don't know that it's any better than what you already have. Ideally Vessery gets "double duty" out of Vynders TL, Vynder poons something, then the Omega triggers it with ASTS. Also, at least for me, Vessery tends to draw more aggro away from Vynder (more so than QD) so he lives longer.

ASTS would be way better on QD than Trick Shot. And Harpoons or Clusters would be better on Vynder than Homing, though I'd choose Harpoons.

With those 2 points, Sensor Cluster has proven very useful on QD. Though I'm also a fan of Pattern Analyzer.

I got wrecked by a PTL Vynder during the Hoth open this weekend. And I see the upside of the PTL version.

Vynder - PTL, advanced slam, missile title, harpoon missiles, prockets.

It comes out to 40 points, but every turn he would move, SLAM, TL/focus, or focus/reload. I have to admit I was not ready for how strong it could be. If I would have known, I would have gone after Vynder first. Oddly enough, that game came down to final salvo because Vynder got in range 1 of my bomber, killed me, which triggered 2 harpoon tokens and killed himself.

Can you use the reload action even if you gave no munitions to reload? Given precedence I'd assume yes.

It's a shame Vynders native PS is 7. Poe will eat him alive. Really want to run him with Harpoon Quickdraw and a Harpoon Nu though

VI on Vynder is a trap. It means that she generally has unmodified shots since she only has one action which is needed to reload. And even 4 dice without mods means only 2 hits. If you use the target lock to reroll, you also lose your shot next round.

PTL is far better, despite the drop in PS.
