How do you think they'll bring in new factions?

Oh, I would totally rock a Gungan army! The shields could be made out of acrylic like the colored X-Wing bases, they'd look great!

Maybe it’s possible. I just would not count on it. I assume any clone wars era stuff would be it’s own starter set and compatable like they did with x-wing.

I know better than to count on anything from a big company. I think the previously mentioned "half core" starter would be a good way to introduce any new armies. "Scum" of course are not limited to just Clone Wars, but we'll see what happens. I assume that FFG is going to be fleshing out Empire and Rebels more before they come anywhere near planning new factions.

So two reinforced platoons? We see pirate bands bigger than that, not to mention why didn't any of the factions in Clone Wars or GCW just conquer the Hutt crime syndacite if they could field that much? A couple of hover tanks, a few squads of goons, bounty Hunter, or two, and two gang leaders and you're easily pushing 1600.

Haven’t they intimated that there are plans for team play? I think it’s entirely possible we might see forces of 120-240 trooper minis per side (2v2 grand army style)

Back to the original topic...

When they introduced the Scum faction in X-wing they did it with a "large" expansion that included lots of cards for existing Rebel/Imperial ships along with a few unique ships. However, X-Wing has a "Wave" release scheme, which they are not seeming to follow with Legion.

With Runewars, which seems to be a test game for Legion, they released additional factions by releasing a "Half Core" box and then individual unit expansions. Runewars does not follow the "Wave" release schedule that X-Wing has.

With this information the safest bet would be that, if they DO introduce new factions, it will be similar to the Runewars method. A "half core" starter that includes a commander, a couple of Corps units, and a Support, along with unit expansions for the Corps, Support, and perhaps a Heavy unit or perhaps a Special Forces one. Maybe even a 2nd commander.

Even there, Hondo's pirate band had multiple hover tanks and easily 100 pirates in the base. Or if the scum break the "Dark or light" paradigm by being "Grey" they could fight alongside either side otherwise just fight alongside whichever faction they are part of. If this was a 15mm game were we fielded whole platoons if AT-AT's I'd agree it was a bit big for any scum.

Given there is another discussion on another thread about how the forces are too small to be led by characters I find it amusing to be in the other conversation that they are too big for a criminal faction.

Also, did they SAY all four players would be fielding grand armies, or is it more likely they meant each side was the size of a grand army? So 4 800 point armies.

I expect to see the Droid army sooner than later. I think people will get over their hatred of them as soon as they realize that anyone that picks them up is just giving you an opportunity to gun down rows and rows of those stupid Rogers.

I would love the droid army and I’d happily give you that chance. Of course they will be shooting back and (hopefully) are priced accordingly so spamming them is possible. And through in the destroyers for support and the AAT for heavy.

A B1, B2, commando droids, droidekas, buzz droids, vulture droids, and super tactical droids have all been brought up in the new canon during the GCW. The STAP is also part of that.

I think the Runewars "Half Core" model for adding factions is both appropriate and likely.

I'm getting the core set and plan to build at least one modest army, but what I really want is a Separatist army. B1 battle droids, B2 super battle droids, BX commando droids, droidekas, AATs (or any of the various tank droids), and some of my favorite possible commanders -- General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, Count Dooku.

Oh I’m fully on board that Scum would have the capacity to wage war at the Armada and Legion level (Rebellion: Forces of Corruption did exactly this already);

I don’t recall anything specific about the number of players and army size, but if the shoe fits...why not?

Kylo Ren ftw. Bring on the First Order!

Hey if you can find the models and the players, I don't care if you reenact the entire battle of Hoth to scale. :P I was just curious if they had mentioned it, or if was a "we hope people do this" sort of thing. I'll probably pull up the videos while I'm assembling/painting stuff tomorrow.

I'd play Gungans if they were released. Hate me all you want, but I love their design. They would look amazing on tabletop

FFG knows Galactic Battlegrounds exists (Hi, TIE Punisher!) I'd be all for them to open up the game to dedicated Gungan and Wookiee armies with all the crazy **** that game has and more. I don't think they will but this is as good a chance as any.

Bubble shields would be pretty easy, cancel so many hits beyond a certain range but does nothing inside the range.

Providing Cover 2 to units in a radius if the attack originates outside the radius would be one way, with Immune: Pierce or something? I'm sure FFG has some plan for shields...

Dude I love the Galactic Battlegrounds game, it's perfect for me. I still play it alot with my father :) (It was the first video game I played, back when I was 5. XD )

I agree with the half core idea and that fits to release another faction to test the waters before there are multiple factions released at once. Again, I see it down the road in a year or two. I see another commander or two per side, then add support units, another vehicle and another trooper type before any additional factions

Not sure why people keep saying a year or two. Right now Legion is on a path of a couple releases a month and it sounds like they're not planning on slowing down. a 3rd Commander and Corps, and a 2nd Heavy and support could be rolled out over a 6 month period.

And then they still need to do 1-2 units for the Special Forces slot. Also, there may be months where the only release is terrain like the Objective box set, or unforseen delays in manufacturing or shipping. Hopefully they can keep up the pace of monthly releases, but we don't yet know how well that will work. FFG hasn't done that before for a game that I know of.

Special Forces has so much potential. I'm very excited to see how they fill that slot.

Yeah, I'm hoping we get Wookie Warriors as a Special Forces unit for Rebels. I'd feel obligated to run 3x squads of them

I've been pretty negative on "Squads"(legion) so far, but honestly if they add CIS I might eat my words and dive in. Obviously it'll be years before they even consider adding another faction so I'll enjoy my salty time.

It's worth noting that there's no link between rank and unit type. That leads to some really interesting options. We could have a guy in a tank who is a Repulsor Vehicle Commander for example. When I read Special Forces my mind immediately assumed Death Troopers, but it could be anything. Boba Fett could fit that slot or even something like 5th Brother/7th Sister. It's pretty flexibly done.

As a young lad I remember reading Shadows of the Empire when it was first released. I fell in love(Maybe it’s the pheromones?) with the dastardly Prince Xizor and his underworld empire. Being able to field a force made up of the desperate swoop gangs, pirate crews, spice runners, slicers, hired guns, hit men, gangsters and assorted naer-do-wells of the Black Sun would be a boyhood wish fulfilled.

Well, we already have a situation where you can put a General in an AT-ST, who can then be commanded by another general.

I believe one of the designer interviews stated they were planning on only having Trooper Commanders. Which makes sense as a Trooper is much more vulnerable than a Vehicle, especially one with Armor.

If they do Bobba Fett for the Empire (hoping for Scum only, but I could understand both for him), Special ops would be my pick for his slot. Same for Chewbacca really. Good call on the Inquisitors though. Death Troopers could work for either Special Ops or even a unique Corps unit to be honest.
