When your opponents dice hate you

By Ronu, in X-Wing

I think the elite few that have experienced the Major Explosion -> Major Explosion -> Direct Hit critical combo chain have earned the right to be declared "unluckiest players alive". I've personally had Major Explosion -> Blinded pilot, which in the circumstances is just as bad.

I recently played Dash + Crimson Specialist against ReyLow, who only rolled 2 non-blanks the entire game. So, despite Dash rolling 4 damage on every attack, the proton bombs from Crimson Specialist did more damage overall. I ended up winning, and it was one of my most enjoyable games ever because I won against such insane dice, but wow, it's annoying at the time!

I think I may have a right to that title...

Linked is a stream of the Canadian nationals where my opponent in round 1 rolls 1 hit on 14 bomb dice on stream. also rolls 1 non-full hit attack and a crit on every single attack roll.

Opponents dice hate me? ALL dice hate me. Much like Odysseus with Poseidon, I have angered the dice gods..

Man, that's pretty brutal, but still not as unlikely as the Major -> Major -> direct combo. The odds of rolling 1 hit/crit on 14 dice are 0.08%, compared to the super-combo:

First, you've got to roll a crit, and on a standard 3-die unmoddedattack that's a 3/8 chance.
the Defender has to not block every shot, and with two agility unmodded that's a 60% chance of pushing the crit through.
then, draw a Major Explosion; a 2/33 chance.
Then roll a hit; 3/8.
Draw another major Explosion; 1/32.
Roll a second hit; 3/8.
Draw a direct hit; 7/31.

This adds up to a 0.00133% chance of experiencing the combo on an average attack. So it's in the same realm of probability, but about 1/8 the chance of rolling 1 success on 14 attack dice.

Part of why I fly the Ghost is so at least I can control half of the dice not betraying me hahaha

Pft, that combo is child's play

One of the our locals pulled Major Explosion into Major Explosion into Major Hull Breach...

All onto Major Rhymer

Given the probability of ever seeing the good major on the table, let alone the good majormajormajormajor, that guy probably should've tried his hand at the lottery

This made a bad day good again. Thank you. :)

I suppose the odds of an Opportunist, Jan and Target Lock backed HLC firing at an unshielded Decimator with hull upgrade first getting 6 crit results from the reroll (1/262144) chance, then that ship being dealt:

Major -> Major -> Direct (0.04% chance)
Direct (6/30 chance)
Direct (5/29 chance)
Direct (4/28 chance
Direct (3/27 chance)
Blinded pilot (2/26 chance)

13 damage from a single attack.

You could go one step further with a Quickdraw (Opportunist, FCS) with Youngster + expose wingman flying near a Yorr shuttle with fleet officer and Hux to give QD some good mods.

You'd be looking at 20 dice in a songle turn, so I suppose it's conceivable that they could all be crits against two Decimators parked next to him on either side...
