I wish the Unicorn character was not unique......cuz well LPB.
It's a step in the right direction, even if it's a very small step.
Unicorn players are going to have to have a tremendous amount of patience because it looks like they will be getting a slow trickle of cards to improve them, instead of a crashing wave of goodness.

The Unicorn clan pack really just needs to be complete fixes for just about every Unicorn card at this rate! 
Anyway, I really like the Kami but I'd rather see some kami keyword support before I'd play them right now. Nothing really beats that Crab card yet.

I think it's just that all the non-Phoenix, non-neutral cards help counter Phoenix in some way, but obviously aren't exclusively anti-Phoenix.
Personally, in addition to some strong Phoenix cards, I'm really looking forward to that Kami Unleashed. Not only can I go for Fire to honor someone, but I can use the ring during the battle to increase my odds of capturing it! Also, I just noticed that the Kami are Conflict characters, which furthers their usefulness! I can't wait to see what the other clan packs will offer, too!

Good observation.
The only room to introduce Neutral characters and to expand options would be through Conflict characters I think. This move will only serve to add an additional factor of balance to the Clan decks for the near future...
hmmmm, which leads me to this: Will there be new Roles that will allow more than 10 Conflict characters in a deck? (if current trends of Goblins and Kami continues, their abilities might rival certain Events and Attachments)
The Crane seems the best character on the pack, while crab and dragon affects both players this has a unlimited reaction that only benefits his owner?
Scorpion is very resctricted to the phoenix and spells meta and unicorn is good but understated and depends on the board situation to be truly effective.
I think it will be really hard to handle crane attacks since the other clans (except scorpion) have few ways to increase political skills.

Even if there are new roles to change deck construction limits, by choosing one of those you'd lose keeper/seeker and not be able to include those extra conflict characters. Unless they start allowing you to play multiple roles at the same time.

That depends on what they call said hypothetical new roles, for instance a role that increases the conflict character limit could be called "seeker of new recruits" or "keeper of the little black book" or something else contrived like that.
So, you attack me, I defend just with the Guardian Kami, sacrifice it, resolve the ring effect, and now I have no defenders, so I lose the conflict unopposed, Display of Power and get to resolve the ring again?

Ummmmmm, no. You defend and I play Assassinate, you don’t have Censure, you splashed Lion so no out of Clan cards to stop my Event, and your Kami goes into the discard pile, dejected..... the other Kami in your deck begin looking at you suspiciously...

That could work. Clunky as it may be, it's passable.
Hopefully they don't refer to the Shadowlands roles as keeper/seeker "of the taint"
Having my opponent make taint jokes during every match might start to annoy me.......and you don't want to see this Oni when he's angry.
