Finally deciding to take the plunge

By blkdymnd, in Star Wars: Legion

Better nearly late than never. I was going to avoid it, I just don’t care for the card chase model. It seems fairly minimal though here, and after watching a couple videos, the familiar gameplay nailed it.

I was a Dust player from day one in 2010 until late last year. Dust Warfare was one of my favorite game systems of all time. The suppression/panic system was developed so well by Andy Chambers and then by FFG.

After watching a few videos, they cut and pasted that entire mechanic into Legion and I’m so excited to play my favorite parts of Warfare again, with the added bonus of a Star Wars skin. So off I go preordering the crap out of this game, can’t wait to play it.

Nice.

Had this pre ordered since August and this week is like Xmas for me atm :D (im sure im not alone)

You’re not!!!!!

Welcome to the family!

Yeah I could hardly wait for the 22nd and pick up all my Pre-Orders from my FLGS and now I have to go to Walt Disney World to visit the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

I am so bummed out right now you have no idea!!!!:o

Just kidding I can wait a little while longer. I will just have the wife send me an email saying FFG delayed it again for a few more days.

While at Mickey land grab the AT-AT that holds popcorn. Its decent size for Legion.

I tried on my last visit and they said they are out of stock until May the Fourth. I live in Florida so its not too big a deal to go back. I am dying for Galaxies Edge to open at Hollywood Studios. 2019 cant get here fast enough.

I love that they are using some of the mechanics from DUST...I think the suppression mechanic is a LITTLE different in that is it also used for panic tests but it's been awhile since I read my Warfare rulebook.

The only difference in panic, I believe, is that Dust used remaining unit size where Legion uses a Courage threshold for the suppression counters to exceed

I preordered back in august, but have been waffling pretty hard all winter. I've decided to give it a go.

The question is... how much rebels do I need to buy to field a full army...

Well, if you're looking for minimum expenditure, a single core set with 1 Rebel Trooper expansion and a T-47 Airspeeder get's you to around 750pts. That get's you Luke, 3x Rebel Trooper squads, 1 AT-RT, and 1 T-47. If you toss in a second Rebel Trooper expansion you'd have more Corps options aka. Objective holders, or an AT-RT expansion would give you some variation there.

so about $200 Canadian and I think I could get away with it to start. I was thinking a Luke/3 troops/2 ATRT/Speeder for a starter squad

That's about what I"m planning on running for my first list. Give Luke Force Push and Force Reflexes, throw some Z-6 troopers in the Trooper squads, give the AT-RT's the Laser Cannons, and a T-47, comes out to around 795 pts. I think I put Long Range Comms on all three vehicles.

I only just Pre-Ordered based on Gameplay vids, and it seems FFG are cross polonating muiltiple expansions with the same upgrade cards meaning you will not be 'forced' / 'coerced' / 'encouraged' to buy one of everything outside of the commanders which are cheap and thematic.

and you will chase them right into the traps with sharp sticks.

Any thoughts on a 750ish point Imperial army on a budget?

Cheapest option is to get double Core Set, sell the Rebels and go with Vader (Push, Saber Throw, Reflexes), double speeders w/ comlinks and 4 units of troopers (i'd suggest taking two rocket launchers and two DLT's to combat rebel armor, seasoned with extra troopers/scopes, whichever you like most)

PS. Also, if you max out on everything troopers can get you can easily get to full 800 p. ;) Though it's probably better to get sth new and shiny at this point :P

Can I ask why 750? When the official size is 800, being so close seems unusual?
