I am trying to find where the colored side of the crate tokens are used. Does anyone recall using them in either campaign or skirmish?
Are the colored crate tokens used in this game?
Probably in the campaign somewhere.

I quickly flipped through the core campaign book and didn't see them being used. Did I miss it?
I think they are used in some skirmish missions, but im just going off the top of my head here...but the disc colors are definitely used in both campaign and skirmish
I want to say the app campaign I just finished a few days ago used them in the middle of the mission.

colored site = crate hasn't been opened. When it's opened, the token is flipped.

Is this in the rule book? I've never played this way...

No, the crate token is claimed by the player that opened it. Not sure about skirmish, but as far as I know they've never made an appearance in the campaign. At least not in any missions I've played? I suspect they were added as a just in case.

I recall seeing this said by FFG somewhere but it was so long ago that I could easily be misremembering.
As @TheWelcomeMat88 & @totalnoob said, they are used in skirmish and the app. I know the aren’t used in any campaign from core through Bespin, but I haven’t played Jabba or HotE yet and have been avoiding looking at the campaign books.
Don't remember campaign but they're definitely used in skirmish
Hired Guns map from Wave 3 comes to mind
They are used in some of the campaign missions. Once a rebel claims it they take it and keep it next to them. At the end of the mission they get an extra 50 credits to spend on upgrades from tiers 1, 2, and 3. I have not encountered where it is flipped in campaign to the colored side. FFG may have thought that there could be a mission that would need to do that but they have not released one mission that works that way.
I remember one mission in the campaing (dont remember which one) where one colored crate was different than others (it contained mission- specific item). The crates were randomized and put with gray side on top
Edited by JaremaI know terminals use their colored side. Not sure about crates- at least, I don't think it's ever been a factor for me. Seems like it might've been an addition for possible future implementation, just in case.
Probably a holdover from Descent, too, where various "crates" would have different stuff inside of them. As far as I can tell, the "crates" in Descent seem a lot more important and more often used than the IA ones.
I came up with a use for the colored side. The R5 astromech (bespin) has forage: Search a crate limit once per crate. If the crate has been searched by the mech, then we flip it over, and the mech player knows not to forage that crate.
