Happy Friday X-Wing still makes me happy.

Hello Friends and happy Friday to you US peeps, to the rest of the world a hearty and happy hello.

Question this week is do you play epic if so why?

Big shout out this week to Zac Matthews(Kryats) Dee Yun(Mynocks), Biff (Shuttle Ty) and my local friends (Hornet Squad peeps) and 4th place Atlanta regional Kyle J.

It has been a rough week and each of these guys have made it better so 10,000 thank you.

I am not unaware that XWing has some problems but our a community rocks and extends well past just this game into our lives and we have some excellent people that make it more enjoyable. :-)

Happy Friday!

I don't get to play as much true, 300-point Epic as I'd like, but the main reason I own all the Epic ships is for coming up with elaborate RPGs and campaigns.

When I do play Epic, the main reason why is that I really enjoy having large, slow, powerful, multi-attack ships that the fast little ships can duck and weave between - it seems to really add a lot of realism and depth to the whole outer-space dogfighting feel!

Happy Friday, CB. Some folks were beginning to wonder. . .

I only play Epic. It feels like Star Wars on the screen. . .a handful of ships (or more) engaged in a critical tactical fight. All the better if there are mission parameters. I never mastered swarming much, but even at that you will only be flying 8 bare bones ships for 100 points. Epic lets you have lots of ships, or fewer ships designed in customized units, and of course the option of capital ships. The larger game play area allows for pockets of engagement, breaking off, and stranding units too far away from the main battle to be useful. Thus, it adds back some strategy to an otherwise tactical game. Also, I like that a single game will fill an evening.

I played 100/6 to learn the game. At this point for me, it's too small of a game for me to find it immersive in a "I'm playing Star Wars!" kinda way.

And with that, I'm to bed. I have to get up early to watch them dye the Chicago River green :)

I prefer playing epic and will always choose epic over a standard game. I know many people will go to Armada for capital ships, but with Armada I don't feel a narrative, it feels less personal. I like it when Vader gets shot down by a rookie pilot or when Luke crashes into a Gozanti. I also love ramming huge ships with huge ships (can't wait for the hammerhead). There just seems to be a bit more chaos with epic.

Happy Friday, CB! Glad to hear some guys made your week a little better.

As to the question. I love epic! Like Tim the Toolman Taylor would say "More ships, more guns, more destruction" . We like to field a 600 point squad with two CR-90s vs two Raiders and a slew of fighters and bombers. Three man teams and a magnetic dry erase board to keep the rosters straight.

The downside is the length of time it takes to complete. Most of a Saturday is gone. Not a complaint just a fact. The upside is watching a beautiful feint develop when four Y-Wings roll in to ion a Raider followed by a precision cluster mine drop that basically guts the ship in one round. The outcome for the Ys is reminiscent of Torpedo 8 but they saved the Rebellion.

Happy Friday!

I don’t play much Epic. The size and time investment usually discourage me, I think due to memories of overdoing such kinds of play in a previous minitures game I was into (MageKnight).

Happy friday cb!

I have played 3 or 4 times, but those mainly consisted of Team captains run epic ships and everyone else brings 100 points. Still tons of fun though.

Although In April we are having a 200 point tournament, epics allowed, So I look forward to finally putting my GR-75 on the table!

Happy Friday ! :)

Yes and no now, we now play on my local area for small local event or during holiday.

We play majority with team epic format which is better and more friendly.

Now since FFG have updated Epic Rules I can't swarm with my crackshot swarm :( but can always do with my Tempest/AC :P but it's cool to see some squadron mechanic on here now.

Happy Friday!

In our group, we play various formats, often 150 pts free for alls with 4 players (epic light), or, my personal favourite: 250-300 points of fighters + 100-150 points of epic ships (400 total). In that variant, the fleets really look like fleets.

One format we will soon try is "formation wing", where we deploy ships in groups of 3-4 (e.g. Wedge+2 Rookies, Darth+2 blacks etc.), led by one designated leader. The movement is then standardized so that the whole "tray" moves together - namely, the leader activates at his ps and the other ships are placed in contact with him once his activation is finished. Simple as that (+some bonus rules concerning stress, repostion actions etc.) That way, we are hoping to speed up the game significantly, so that games of 300 pts+ are less long.

Epic team battles are the greatest thing you've never done. 2 teams of 2. Line up 2 mats. Each team gets 400 points total. Each team member has to control at least 2 ships.

I only play Cinematic Play scenarios that I design myself and, occasionally, some of FFG’s included missions. The CR-90 model is the sole reason I play this game. I was playing on a couple of the Star Wars Galaxies fan run servers to try to recapture the glory days of my Ithorian Rebel Ace Pilot. My goal was to take down the Star Ravager one last time but the pilot grind proved to be too much with so few people available to help at any given time (server population isssues). But, I digress. Playing SWG got me looking for a nice model of the Corellian Corvette for display. The nicest looking model I could find, that was of any decent size, was FFG’s XWM-scale CR-90. I got the ship and thought it was cool that you could also play a game with it. So, I bought a core set...and another core set...and about 100 other ships since that fateful day a couple years ago.

Now, I buy all kinds of 3D terrain, custom mats and 3D printed ships that FFG hasn’t released, or will never release. I design my own cards through Strange Eons and make my own custom missions. It reminds me of playing with my old Kenner toys. I won’t buy into Legion because, as someone else said, I prefer my action figures to be bigger and have some articulation. I already collect some vintage Kenner stuff and the modern Hasbro toys. I also don’t want to paint hundreds of minis. So, for me, XWM Epic (or its Cinematic version, as I prefer) is where it’s at. I’ve got enough XWM-scale toys to keep me occupied for years and I’ll keep churning out missions to play on my custom-designed Epic Play table topper for the rest of my days. I’ve told my wife, when we buy a new, larger house, I want a room for all my Star Wars stuff. I plan to keep a running Epic game going at all times. That way, I can avoid all the setup and tear-down and just play it at my leisure.

Yeah, I enjoy a game of epic. It's a bit of a longer game, which I'm fine with, and the addition of huge ships provides some nice flavour to the game. It's a different feel.
