Boxes and Packs issue.

By Damore, in Star Wars: Destiny

I have bought boxes from all 4 sets, and 3 or 4 boxes of each set. Half the boxes have been bought from different sellers. So I would like to talk about the randomness or lack there of with the boxes.

1. The placement of legendaries in the box. From all the boxes that I have opened and seen opened at my FLGS it seems that 2 or 3 of the legendaries are at the top, another 2 or 3 at the top. This has led to players buying about 6-10 packs from the FLGS when a new box is opened and getting 3 legendaries.

2. The duplicate rares. It is hardly random went I expect to get at least 4 doubles in a box. The last box I opened of Legacies had 6 double in the same box.

3. Boxes with the same legendary and rare cards. I buy 2 boxes from the FLGS of each new set. Each pair of boxes have had about 90-95% same cards for the legendary and rare cards.

I had hoped FFG would have fixed this issue by now. What are your thoughts, and ways we can address FFG with this issue?

Random does not mean evenly distributed.

If there are approximately 60 rares in a set(not in a place to check how many there actually are right now) and you open a box with 30 rares the chance of duplication is quite high.

As for the rest of your post. Look up something called confirmation bias.

Do some testing on this. Get a decent sample size. Then come back with some proper quantifiable results.

Random of course means you can randomly get the same thing over and over. I have about 6 boxes worth of legacies and theres a few rares i dont have at all and some i had stupid amounts of dupes (i have 0 roguish charms, but like 10 freakin' clonetroopers)

Though i agree the placement of legendaries is kinda silly, i swear they dont shuffle them when they put them in the boxes. I just bought the last 3 of a box and 2 of the 3 were legendaries (pissed my friend off because 1 was yoda lol). We've seen a new box get opened and immediately reach to the top, lo-n-behold atleast 2 of the 5-6 packs we grabbed were legendaries every time.

I understand what random means. I also know what confirmation bias is. Maybe you should add your experience with opening boxes instead of being condescending.

I posted my personal experience, but I have talked with people in different parts of the country about the same problem. They are experiencing the same issue. I know that is still confirmation bias. Sorry I didn’t take notes or create a statistical graph.

If more people post and share we will get more information. Then we can see if it really is an issue, or just an issue with my friends and I.

Okay i will:

I've had exactly the spread I'd expect from a random system of distribution.

This has led to a frustratingly high number of Krennics in Spirit of rebellion but an absolute gold mine of ancient lightsabers in empire at war.

I never want to see another maz's vault again and i still don't have an easy pickings, but i did get enough battle droids to make a tidy profit off folks desperate to own 7+ battle droids...

This is the nature of random chance. I accept it, i understand it, and i buy my boxes knowing they may well be 36 of the most useless rares/legendaries in a given set. I don't come on the internet to cry that i think the system isn't random enough because i think i should get 30 different rares and 6 different legendaries in every box, then 30 still different rares and 6 still different legendaries in a different box.

I'll stop being condescending when i see some actual decent statistical analysis and not just hearsay and anecdotes.

Back in destiny one of the last Legendary cards I was chasing was a Han Solo, I cracked one at a store out Penrith when I took refuge in there during a 43 degree Celsius day. I think this is certainly well over 100 in the old scale used in less civilised places. :D After that I cracked a few more just taking packs as prices at the local stores. Given that no one was trading or selling him I was more than happy with that little bit of luck.

The last two sets I have cracked a case each time, and for the most part would have 3-4 of a few and 0-1 of a few. Mind you 5 copies of Blackmail in 4 boxes was rather extraordinary, and 5 Tarkins in the previous set wasn't great. But in general it all seemed reasonable in the grander scheme of probability and luck. I can only hope that next time I get the good card everyone is chasing as to trade into the rubbish for a full set, but knowing my luck that'll never happen.
