Grand Admiral Thrawn
Dash is definitely a character who could return without rubbing up too much against other characters. There's almost certainly space for Xizor as well. Maybe they'd appear in the live action show we're getting via the streaming service.
I'd love to see Kyle Katarn recanonized but Alex from Star Wars made a very good point that Kanan kind of covered a lot of the ground Katarn covered. Just, you know, with less Chuck Norris-esque jokes.
I like that Pellaeon has been recononized because I think if we have a show or ongoing series based around Thrawn, which we might get, having Pellaeon to be the Watson to Thrawn's Holmes will be very helpful

When did he show back up? I don't recall seeing him in Rebels or the Thrawn book.
He got name-checked in the Finale and we heard his voice too

Apparently he auditioned for and was almost cast as Han Solo. You can dig up the audition footage somewhere.

I feel like Kanan was the closest we'll get to a re-canonized Kyle Katarn. I would love to see Dash come back but he would need an update. He reeks of the 90's 'rob lefield huge shuolderpads, big guns and lots of pouches' look. Also the old EU games and comics were all about having generic white protagonists that were rip-offs of the OT characters. Kyle started as a Han Solo type and then did an abrupt left turn in Dark Forces 2 to become a Luke rip-off with a jedi father figure. Rebel Assault's Rookie One was a Tattooine farm boy for crying out loud.
Admittedly Ezra started off as a Luke rip-off but they've taken him in a different direction.

He was then transformed into an Anakin rip-off.

For a few episodes in season 2 and 3, yes. But then he came back to the light and is on the path to being some sort of force shaman in the unknown regions.

I was thinking more of the 'disgruntled with authority, rebellious, gifted teen' trope.

Kurt Russell was also the last words of Walt Disney.

There is always a bit of truth in legends.

That’s an urban myth BUT Kurt Russell impressed Walt Disney so much that he was definitely on his mind and in his final studio memo. Still a lot of people think this is real.
When I first heard this, I thought that’s rather scary to be named by a dying legend.

That Lars Mikkelsen voice though.

Yeah, it gets repeated enough that it doesn’t matter if it’s true. Just like Walt’s head chilling out in storage somewhere. It’s not true but eh it’s a good story.
And Kurt Russell is awesome, so why not be the last thing spoken by a studio Titan.

When Heir to The Empire first came out in 1991 I loved the character of Thrawn and in my minds eye saw a young Bill Nighy in that role. I had seen him in Hitlers SS Portrait of Evil and could see him crush in the Grand Admiral role.
Then over a decade later I saw him in Love Actually playing the part of a lovable has been rocker, and while I LOVED him in the role, I realized I could no longer see him as Thrawn.

Underworld tells me Bill Nighy still has the chops for Thrawn. But the actor that voices Thrawn is still a great choice to play him in live action. Bonus, he is the brother of Galen Erso
Full disclosure, I started this thread when I heard of the coming Imperial Assault expansion and could not share it, so I made this Easter egg.
Was about to go batty ?

I picked up Thrawn 2 and Darth Vader 13 this week - the Vader one made no sense and almost nothing happened. And that's how all of the new Marvel comics are. Sure, they're making Vader the protagonist, but he (and all the villains in the other comics) are absolutely hateable. There's no depth. I'm rooting for him and all his allies to die, which makes no sense because I know he's gotta survive to Episode VI. Boring.
The Thrawn comic, on the other hand, is amazing. I'm really rooting for Thrawn and Eli, and it's kind of nice to actually have the Empire seem like the good guys for once. Why can't the rest of the Star Wars universe have this level of depth?
Can we just have Zahn write all the Star Wars comics?
Well, there is a distinction between Thrawn, who's a professional military officer, and Vader, who's channeling a mystical power that basically relies on negative emotions and generally being self-centred and unpleasant to everyone you encounter who disagrees with you. You can make a dark sider look awesome , but it's really hard to ever make them likeable .
This was something you saw in the old EU with characters like Fel, Thrawn, Pellaeon, and Sunber. Yes, Palpatine is a sith lord and dark forces and so on. And yes, the empire is a vast, impersonal bureaucracy.
Thing is, it's still the government. Part of the reason Palpatine succeeded was that the Republic was corrupt and its government not especially functional. And the whole 'order and stability' is, from the view of some people, a darn sight better than what's offered to the worlds stuck dealing with the Hutts and similar neer-do-wells.
Hence why, in TIE Fighter, you found yourself fighting 'pirates' as well as 'rebels'.
