Grand Admiral Thrawn

Loved the comics!
It was good but doesn't add to, or deviate from, the source material one iota. If you read the book, there's nothing new here except some nice art. I'll collect them all anyway but it would be nice if the comics added something, anything, to the story.

Given that the comics are going to be much shorter than the book, I can't imagine them ADDING anything that wasn't in the book.

Didn’t they do that in SotE?
So, it's essentially a shortened, comic adaptation of the Thrawn novel? I was hoping for more, but I can dig it.

Which is in itself a shortened, comical adaptation of the original trilogy...

Yes, and it was frakking terrible. Blue Milk Special did a very good job dealing with SoTE's confusion.
By being super and openly confused about it.

What I hated about SotE II is that a single concussion missle from a ship no larger than the Falcon took out a perfectly hale Imperial Class .
Perhaps one of the first times that they showed how much vulnerable a glass canon that class of ship was.
But we got the Black Sun out of it so there’s that for the Scum players.
I’ll leave this link to Shadows of The Empire comic here if you want to read it. Happy Sunday all.

I need to bookmark this for posterity next time someone suggests it was the evil new Disney Canon that made ISDs into paper tigers.

Uh... not sure what you mean by that. The story of Thrawn is the titular character's rise to power, something that really has not been covered by any media thus far.

ISD fatal flaw: they forgot plot armor. This makes them just vulnerable as TIEs and stormies. (Troopers, not daniels)

Well, a snubfighter took out the first Death Star with a couple proton torpedoes. Then, they made a film to explain it.

Cute segue.
Since it’s Sunday, Let’s do one more.
I always pour the rum above the beer.
While Gosling’s Rum is the traditional rum used in a Dark and Stormy, Kraken Rum is the only readily available rum I prefer over the already great Goslings.
Only fifth year cheerleaders and barbarians drink Malibu.

Then, a single A-wing destroyed a Super Star Destroyer with a kamikaze hit to the bridge. There was no secondary bridge anywhere on that beast?
Glass cannons are an ongoing plot device in Star Wars.

Treasonous and vile Rebel propaganda!
The Empire is Victorious on ALL Fronts!

It's an additional extra and the showroom always overcharges for those.
Fortunately for himself, Thrawn is usually a little more prudent and made the investment.

Timothy Zahn had already expertly introduced Thrawn in the old EU. He had numerous books that, while not explicitly explaining Thrawn's rise to power, certainly gave enough hints to allow the reader to fill in the gaps. Add in numerous comics and excerpts from other novels and you get a very clear explanation of Thrawn's rise.
The current Thrawn book more or less wipes clean the masterpiece that went before it and, while still good, is adapted to a sillier (in my opinion) canon that limits his awesomeness.
I have to say, as someone who hasn't read the book Thrawn yet, this is by far the best Marvel comic so far.
I picked up Thrawn 2 and Darth Vader 13 this week - the Vader one made no sense and almost nothing happened. And that's how all of the new Marvel comics are. Sure, they're making Vader the protagonist, but he (and all the villains in the other comics) are absolutely hateable. There's no depth. I'm rooting for him and all his allies to die, which makes no sense because I know he's gotta survive to Episode VI. Boring.
The Thrawn comic, on the other hand, is amazing. I'm really rooting for Thrawn and Eli, and it's kind of nice to actually have the Empire seem like the good guys for once. Why can't the rest of the Star Wars universe have this level of depth?
Can we just have Zahn write all the Star Wars comics?
I feel like there's an alternate universe somewhere where Shadows of the Empire was made into a movie that came out in 1982 that starred Kurt Russel as Dash Rendar
Big Gizz and his swoop gang! Hopefully its pronounced 'g' as in gizzard and not 'g' as in gentleman
