Oh god, the Sun Crusher... ? Imagination was at an all time low when they designed that monstrosity...

Maybe the way forward for ships outside of what we have is have different eras.

So might be

- clone war era

- civil was era

- new Republic (or whatever)

Ships that we currently have in civil war is base line. If you wanted to play with these outside of civil war they would be more expensive for clone wars and cheaper in new republic.

This would representi technology changes. Ie a civil war era battle cruiser (mc80) should be stronger than a clone war era one (dreadnought or something) but not as powerful as a (mc 90). The points cost would reflect this.

This would help prevent power creep. Let others play with the type of ship they want. Could have single era play or multiple era play.

There are other game systems that do this and it works well.

I am sure there is further ways to develop the idea.

Ugh the Sun Crusher, it was the size of a fighter but could snuff out stars and was almost invincible. I'll pass.

In Star Wars, it has been pretty well established that technology doesn't improve greatly over the last thousand years. The military doctrine shifts to fit the needs of the government in power. Really, only the Death Star's primary weapon was new technology. Gravity well projectors date back to the Sith empire, now they are the hot new tech of the Empire.

The shifts from the Clone Wars to the Galactic Civil War was more a shift in how technology was used. Ships got bigger but pound for pound we're not necessarily more powerful. They were more a concentration of power to be symbols of intimidation as much as warships. Imperial starfighters became faster, but less survivable. Even Rebels implys the the quality of the armor worn by the Clone troops was far superior to that worn by stormtroopers.

It fit the doctrine, ground troops and starfighters became disposable as the empire gained a near limitless pool of manpower. Even things like the TIE Defender project were more a question of cost per Starfighter rather than developing new technology. They became needed to counter the doctrine of the Rebel Alliance, that favored quality over quantity, multi-role over dedicate role starfighters. I don't really see much advancement.

Only stealth tech was ever written as 'new' technology... and even then it was around on larger ships.... see falcon escaping in episode V .... "impossible no ship that size has a cloaking device"

Not in legends, I don't know if they retconed any of the stygiam crystals stuff into Canon. Cloaking technology was old, but the crystals that made it work were no longer available. This forced the Empire to develop a new cloaking technology not based on stygiam crystals. In legends the non stygiam cloaking technology had issues. To the point they used a Death Star like super laser to crack the moon where the crystals were originally mined, to restart a stygiam cloaking program.

To date, I think the only references to cloaking technology in Canon are that line in V, and the stealth ship in TCW. But at the rate they re-canonize stuff, that could change quick.

some things are better not to discuss on the internet.

That's weird. My magic 8 ball just said, "Check out Star Wars Legion".

How much did they spend on the Legion media blitz? ?

They know it's a hard sell getting people so invested in IA, Armada, and X-Wing to invest in another very expensive new game so they have to market it heavily. The first waves of any new game are the most expensive, and are a huge financial risk, even for steady gaming companies. If it doesn't sell well it will really hurt the company.

Also tarkins Personal corvette/yacht is a stealth ship - though based on the tcw one.

Do you think FFG is waiting for Worlds to announce WEight?

When is worlds? If wave 8 is as a big a deal as we are making it (and if it’s an SSD) it’d be a great reveal opportunity.

May 4th, naturally.

April 20 is the drop date for the Solo Star Wars movie toys.

It's all but certain that there is a new X-Wing addition to their current wave arriving there (the new Falcon from the movie), and we know there is at least one new Imperial capital ship that will be in it, so...wouldn't be a surprise if Armada saw something, too. (Although FFG doesn't tend to announce new content for both games on the same day without it being a major con, so...X-Wing news on April 20 and Armada on May 4 may be the most likely plan...)

Wave 8 for Armada isn't ships, but two boxes of terrain. One contains a collection of debris fields, asteroids, and dust clouds, the other contains a space station. At the same time FFG will announce their new line of 6x3 playmats for Armada, Epic X-Wing, Runewars miniatures, and Star Wars Legion.

Wouldn't that be the perfect announcement? Every player I know would buy all of this, and two of the space station. :)

This, but with a fighter pack along with it.

Just so people who want some new units can have some fun in the wave.

OP, idk about an announcement for ships but I think FFG just released a new game. Something like star wars lesion. I don't think they are building the hype enough though. Haha

entire home page is legion... and the just announced Han and a commando pack.

it will be a month or two till we get an armada post.
