"LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT
Voice Actors For ULTRAMARINES Movie Announced!
We’re very pleased to announce that Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and John Hurt head the cast of actors lending their voices – and their facial expressions - to the Ultramarines movie.

Other key parts are to be played by Steven Waddington, Donald Sumpter and Johnny Harris, with Ben Bishop, Christopher Finney and Gary Martin appearing in supporting roles.

The three lead actors shared their thoughts on working on Ultramarines...

Multi award-winning and Oscar-nominated Terence Stamp confesses that a boyhood love of the science fiction classics attracted him to his role. “Warhammer 40,000 is an incredibly strange world, yet one with rules,” he says. “I felt very comfortable with Ultramarines - in fact, it’s really the culmination of a lot of things I’ve been in.” Stamp’s previous credits include Superman, Superman II, Valkyrie and the Halo 3 video game.

Sean Pertwee, acclaimed for his role in the action horror movie Dog Soldiers, says, “Before Ultramarines, I had no idea about the depth of Warhammer 40,000. I used to be into graphic art, so I find the concepts and architecture and character designs quite extraordinary. This film really is being made for the fans.” Pertwee’s other credits include Event Horizon, Mutant Chronicles and Equilibrium, as well as the video games Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior and Killzone 2.

John Hurt, winner of countless international awards and Oscar-nominated for his performances in The Elephant Man and Midnight Express, has a special feature role in Ultramarines. He says, “I know quite a lot about Warhammer 40,000 because my elder son was into it. I used to take him down to the store in London’s Oxford Street so he could see it in action. It’s a very different world which really teases the imagination.” Hurt’s numerous other film roles include Alien, Hellboy and Hellboy II and Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Vanessa Chapman, managing director of the production company, Codex Pictures, is delighted to have attracted such a prestigious cast to Ultramarines. “Our goal has been to give the characters distinctive and authoritative voices, fitting to these superhuman men of war,” she says. “Coupled with the authentic and engaging facial capture provided by Image Metrics, these outstanding actors are going to do so much to bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe powerfully to life on screen.”

I have been keeping an eye on the development of this project and all I can say is what is being thrown around about it thus far is all good! And the voice/ motion capture casting is stellar! Cannot wait!

You can keep up with all the "hype" about the movie here , including the voice acting video referenced above.

Any sci fi fantasy movies are welcome diversions from reality!

When I first heard about this, I wasn't optimistic. The idea of a CGI Space Marine movie seemed to me to be inherently dull, and I imagined that it would be like watching an extended Xbox360 game cutscene.

Then I heard that Dan Abnett was scripting it, and I became keener on the idea. I love his stuff: he knows the setting (I know some of you will argue that, but I stand by it) and he knows how to write action.

And these recent voice talent reveals make me even more excited about it...

I have to agree. Initially all I could think of were some of those Dawn of War cutscenes. Some were... alright, but there were also the "Spess Mahrine" quality lines. I feared it would just be 70 minutes of angry Space Marines shooting people.

However, it's starting to look really good and I'm getting quite keen on it. From a more meta point of view, a 40k movie would really help expand the universe beyond its shackles as a tabletop game. But the movie itself looks like it will be really enjoyable. Abnett hasn't written a book I haven't liked yet and everything seems to be coming together.

All I would like to see now is maybe a screenshot of what a scene will look like rendered. That could be months coming, but when it does grace the webpage I will be there.

With regards to this film is it going to be on general release or web based like Born of Hope?

It is my understanding that they are going direct to DVD, distributing through Games Workshop.

Ah that makes sense. Cheers that's been bugging me for a while

How is GW going to get away with charging $28 for a DvD?

One would hope because it's Blu-Ray. gui%C3%B1o.gif

$28 is about average for brand new 2 disc DVD sets. Depending on, of course, where you buy from.

Blu-Ray 2 disc sets tend towards $35 at absolute minimum brand new, from Blockbuster.

Blu-ray or I am going to be extremely disappointed! :)

i suspect that just about Every other chapter will have something to say about that last sentence....

We can take it. We're accustomed to our Ultramarine brethren having an overinflated opinion of their own importance. ;)

(I say several days after watching the video, now capable of writing something more coherent than "OUTRAGEOUS!")

They could get away with 90 minutes of angry marine action if Michael Bay directed it :-) After all, that's pretty much all he does and people tend to eat it up like addicts snorting lines.

Nah, Optimus Prime, if Thats not THE Perfect Ultra Marine name i dont know what is...

Well, other than Ultra Magnus

Prime embodies everything the peons see Marines as in the propaganda.

The Noble, Valorous, Armoured and ready to kill the enemy when commanded, able to show mercy and compassion and to lead when the time is right.

Liek the good old AD&D paladins, atleast when Lawful Good wasnt played as Stupid Nazi, which is how they often seem to be played...

Everytime someone mentions the Ultramarine movie all i can think is "KNEEL BEFORE SEVERUS!"

So hope they get a line like that in there.

Considering it's GW, they will probably charge 30 Euro's or something for a normal DVD and for the Blueray I wouldn't be surprised if the would charge like 80Euro and you'll have to sign a waver that GW can claim your heart & kidneys after you die. >:-)

In general; nothwithstanding the excellent quality of most of their products, they're not afraid to charge you more than enough for it.
