Rebels - No Regen - No Harpoons - No Turrets

No turrets, I swear...

List on Yet Another Squad Builder

  • Jess Pava - Flight Assist Astro, Primed Thrusters, Autothrusters
  • Gold Sqdn - Flight Assist Astro, TLT, BTL-A4 title
  • Gold Sqdn - Flight Assist Astro, TLT, BTL-A4 title
  • AP5 - Weapons Engineer, M9-G8

It's 100 points, and for the most part just moving and shooting. AP5 target locks both Golds at the start to increase accuracy. There's not a whole lot of room for modifications, but auto thrusters on a 2 agility ship is only marginally effective and primed thrusters could move.

I've put M9G8 on Pava and changed AP5 to Streszra, but he feels rather out of place. It's good, but... any other suggestions on improvements?

Mmm smells good but needs a little spice. R3-A2 on something sounds good. Just making one of the golds a stresshog I think is good value. And I'd probably run the other with Ion but just preference (Ion can shut down a lot of meta things).

I'm not totally sold on Weapons Engineer and M9-G8 for the TLTs. 6 points seems like a lot to sink in there but they are getting 3 shots each when they have arc so maybe. Try it out and see if you get 6 points of value there.

Thanks, good read on the stress. This likely leads me back to the original flavor of the list. Ezra being a better ride for R3-A2 right now... and the flight assist droids allow for some more maneuverable attack patterns. I agree on the ions, just don't like losing that range 3 bracket.

The math seems good for the 6 points of Weapons Eng/M9-G8. It's typically 3 points per ship to get that free re-roll, if you look to Dengar crew, Predator ept, etc... This is 6 points for 6 potential attacks to re-roll one die on per round. Sounds good to me here. Where the points seem to fail is the ride I've put the 6 points on. AP5 is really doing nothing for me other than being a cheap ride. It's 21 points of modest support in a list that can hit pretty consistently but feels like it's missing the big hit.

It does feel close to being good... just a peg below where it could be.

I like the idea of this list.

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to rebel lists, but in this case, I feel that a real 'old-school' list might actually work better:

2 Golds w/ BTL-A4, flight assist & ion turret = 24 x 2

1 Gold w/ BTL-A4, R3-A2 & TLT = 26

Biggs w/ R4-D6 (or flight assist) & integrated = 26

100

Why Biggs? Because your y-wings are the 'power-houses' of the list. So it makes sense to protect them. On the first turn of shooting, if you pop Biggs, your opponent cannot shoot at those juicy y-wings, and so he ends up with something double-stressed and possibly ionized. It gives you a pretty strong opening, whether Biggs survives or not (and he is a bit more durable than a sheathipede thanks to the droid + integrated), and you should be able to get positional superiority if you spaced your ion y-wings correctly so that they can k-turn and keep up the ion pressure.

Also, if Biggs does survive that first turn, your opponent will have a really tough choice: finish off Biggs, or spread damage by going after a more dangerous y-wing?

Also also, the overall damage potential of this version seems on par with the original list, despite losing the free re-rolls on red dice...

Here's my feeling on the ion turrets... If you can get a ship with boost initially ionized, it's easy to maintain that control. It's that first ion though that'll be the challenge as the target may just boost to range 3 and prevent that. At range 3 a BTL-A4 Y-wing with ion is at a severe disadvantage, particularly for the points spent. TLT mitigates that for a point more, and the loss of the control aspect. At range one they trade advantages obviously, but at range one the primary weapon is getting an extra die which offsets things a bit. Considering the state of the meta (Ghost/Fenn, Palp/Aces, high PS-with engine boost) I want to be able to hit range 3 reliably.

Biggs is an interesting choice. I'm definitely not in the camp of believers that he's beyond use!

I see turret upgrades... ;)

Looks fun and it's refreshing to not see a Maulzra VCX w/Fenn :P

Done! I'll even write it out on my squad list.

So, flew it happily and enjoyed Xwing again.

  • In practice it's a buzz saw with even average dice
  • Turns quite nicely
  • Surprisingly tanky
  • AP5 is able to stay out of trouble for a long time
  • Is very sad when arc dodged
  • all but one match had a difference of a single ship.
  • and I did write Twin Laser Tequila shooters on my sheet

Was that you on stream at Canadian nationals yesterday? I saw your exact list against decimator/Ryad but I only watched the beginning as I had to go run a St. Patty's Day 5K (not a 5 speed koigoran turn).

Yeah, that was me. I made a few mistakes, but that was a really fun game. My opponent and I were making wise cracks and improvising song lyrics the whole game.

I dig it! I could see Ion Cannons being good, but TLT, especially with those rerolls, seems undeniably strong offensively. And with 3 other ships, Jess is a TANK. So, your whole list is a powerhouse, which I love.

If you were to go control, I would go Ion Cannons on those BTLs w/ FAA, and replace Jess with Strezzra. However, that would not hit as hard - tradeoff is wildy messing with your opponent.

I was capable of throwing a lot of damage down range, yes. Did something like 9-10 damage to a YV-666 in a single round of fire, so it's getting up to alpha potential damage, but it doesn't deplete. The fun part of it is that it's all dial work and thinking. It is, of course, totally without tricks so I ran into problems against certain lists - but I had hit a pretty low point in the meta so ejected from it to do something else. I like the games where the dials matter and I hit several of those throughout the day.
