Navigator Class questions

By TheGreatBlueChocobo, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi all!

I'm playing a Navigator for a solo Rogue Trader game. I didn't chose the class, just described my character and the powers I saw her having and came to Navigator. This is the first time I've played Rogue Trader and just recently played my second ever game of Dark Heresy. Anyway, there are some questions I'd like to ask about them that don't ~seem~ to be covered in the book. I also don't know much about Warhammer 40k and am just learning.

Question 1: Do Navigators have to go on the "Black Ships" that I've heard so much about?

Question 2: My S.O./GM read something in the book while I was driving about if someone looks into the Warp Eye long enough they can go insane and die. Can other Navigators look into another Navigators eye without those affects?

Question 3: About how often does the Navigator Gene show itself in a Navigator family?

Question 4: Are Navigators encouraged to breed with many other Navigators for the hope of more individuals with the gene and to better protect against inbreeding?

Question 5: The book says that as Navigators age the pupil of the Warp Eye grows making the eye a black orb. Dose this mean the eye is the same color of the other two eyes in their youth?

That is all I can think of right now, thank you for reading! >^o^<

  1. No, they are not Psychic in a traditional sense. Also, the navigator houses have similar arrangements as those between the Imperium at large and the Ad Mech.
  2. Insane, yes. Die, yes. Does it work that way mechanically, not that I recall reading.
  3. Nearly 100%, as I believe it is a recessive trait, and the houses intermarry ALOT.
  4. Encouraged to breed rampantly, no. Interbreed with other navigators, yes. There is a lot of testing done as well to reduce risk of mutation while maximizing the chance of the navigator gene expressing.
  5. Yes. No. The only examples I know of personally all the navigators third eyes were solid black.

There you go.

Thank you Brother Praetus!

Here is a nother question I thought of last night. If the Navigator is crying dose the third eye cry too?

I don't think such has been described anywhere; at least, not that I can think of. I've always thought of their third eye as not so much a true eye, as a different kind of sensory organ; hence the ability to pierce the veil between reality and the warp. But, from the perspective of cool or not cool, I think it would be cool if it shed tears when the navigator cried.

While Navigators presumably aren't immune against The Lidless Stare (that would hopefully be noted in the description), they'd very likely be immune against the normal effect of looking into the eye - after all, according to page 178, part of the point of navigator breeding is to render them immune to going insane and corrupt due to looking into the warp.
