Future flotilla possibility?

By phxcmd, in Star Wars: Armada

Just thinking about future possible flotillas and was thinking of these two and would love to see what everyone thinks.

Class 4 Container Transport http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Class_four_container_transport

and the Dornean Gunship http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Braha'tok-class_gunship

The container transport might seem rather large so I'd have no problem with a down scaling for it. Its lightly armed and would be a good GR-75 for the Imperials. The gunship is the same length as the GR-75 but it would (I assume) have an armament similar to the Gozanti but for the Rebels.

A larger based Flotilla is a possibility, and the Dornean’s are one of the last big screen ships to not appear in the game.

The biggest question with future flotilla’s is how can they be made to stand out from past flotilla’s. A medium based Flotilla would be interesting, but how would it stand apart from the smaller ones? Would this just be a larger imperial GR-75?

With the Dornean, a lot of people have suggested a combat Flotilla. Perhaps something like a glass canon that can hit above it’s weight but can’t take many hits in return. Or perhaps an anti-fighter platform for the Rebels. A lot of design space left unexplored with Flotilla’s so far.

Came here hoping it would be a space whales joke, was disappointed to see a space dump truck and a ship that has no less that 72 threads at this point.

We should add three more to make it 75. 75, being 3/4ths of 100 is just so much cleaner as a number.

Since we don't really have the size of the container ship I'm not sure it would require a medium base. I think it's smaller than that. And as far as the Dornean do we have any idea of what its even capable of?

As far as making it stand out from past flotillas, what I'm suggesting is to basically add the capabilities of the Gozanti and Gr-75 to the opposing sides. Also throw in some new upgrades that could help out the previous 2.

The Dornean Gunship is roughly the same size as a CR90, so it wouldn't make any sense to be a flotilla.

its only 90m as opposed to the CR90 being 150m

ah.

I was eye-balling it based on Rebels .

Totally understandable. I had to look it up on wookieepedia.

I guess it will depend on how large a standard container in the SWU is. If it's the same as a standard R/W container, then it seems it'd be roughly the same length as a CR-90, but bulkier. I think small-base would be better than flotilla.

Honestly, I would really like for them to make more civilian craft, and build missions around them, rather than have everything be standard matchups.

The whole point of this was trying to come up with a use for screen-used ships. I just figure people will pay for a flotilla of cargo ships rather than a small poorly armed ship. The gunship seems too small for a small ship stand by itself.

Agreed, but perhaps we should find out if this is the consensus opinion. Perhaps you should create another thread about it. :P

I could create a thread about what we believe the standard size for the standard SWU shipping container is or should be.

It's odd that Mel has the freighter without the shipping containers.

Here's a pic from the 2nd to last episode. The ghost is actually hiding on it in the lower right hand side.

The gunship looks to be around the same size as a Hammerhead Corvette in Rebels .

Below is concept art form Star Wars: Rebels featuring a Hammerhead and a CR90:

The Hammerhead looks to be around half the size of a CR90 and it is classified as a small base ship and not a flotilla.

Therefore, I'd expect the Dornean Gunship to be a small base ship with 2 models in the pack.

That's a great pic. Missed that one. Yeah that would make sense.

Quite possibly. I'm sure we'll find out. I imagine that FFG has been talking to Disney, trying to find out what exactly the Dornean is, and what it's for.

No doubt.

A Braha'tok gunship plays a pretty major role in Battlefront: Twilight Company , as an escort for Twilight Company's CR90 if I remember correctly.

Can you say anything more about that role? Is it to fend off squadrons or other ships?

It's funny how Canon and Legends disagree with one another on Wookieepedia. According to Canon (source= The Rebel Files ) it's for bombardment and and fast attack, whereas Legends (source = starwars.com databank) its role was anti-starfighter.

Sounds like we have our 2 variants.

If the dornean gunship comes out and I think it will it will be like a gonzoti but with double anti-fighter and no dice out the side, and cost around the same maybe a little bit more, but just a redirected and evade as tokens.

Yeah, if I recall correctly (it’s been a while), the novel described it as both. I think it was primarily anti-starfighter, but was able to perform a delaying action on an ISD at one point.

Thanks for the replies. This is a great community to be in.
