Amazon is sending stuff out early.

By KraydKaflar, in Star Wars: Legion

My wife surprised me and ordered Legion on Amazon and I got mine on Sunday. Still plan on buying from my LGS on Thursday as well.

If I had a LGS I'd have bought it there. Unfortunately i live in the arm pit of nowhere and have to drive 2 towns over to find anything.

I got my core set from amazon today.

Yea mine is scheduled for delivery as well!

Got core today, too bad it showed up just as I had to go to bed.

Man. Pre-ordered from CSI, but they have a habit of not shipping until release day!

Miniature Market updated the status of my orders to "Processing Preorder - Shelf," so hopefully they'll at least send them before Thursday.

I'm not holding my breath, though.

I find this whole thing very interesting since any form of retail outlet that is caught breaking a release date can be fined up $2000 per copy sold before the date. If it’s Amazon I’d be guessing they just don’t care but for any little stores it’s a “time to close” event!

Holy Moly, my retailer confirmed they should be able to get pre orders to customers Thursday / Friday this week... Then I am off for 9 days happy coincidence, I thought UK would be behind the curve by a week or two.

Dice pack and maneuvering set arrived yesterday. Speeder bikes and atrt not due till next week though. All from amazon

It's could also be a case of someone using Amazon as their webstore/warehouse/shipping so it can also be a case of obscurity keeping them safe. They would have to be caught to be fined.

I've never ordered through MM. I probably ought to release the hold...

Fined by whom? It's not a crime. The most FFG can really do is refuse to sell them product early with the next big release.

This isn't me complaining but who this really hurts the most is the people that will be entering the painting competitions they won't receive their stuff until Thursday or later but have to compete against people who have had it for almost a week

As one of those people who might be inclined to compete, I agree. (And there’s nothing wrong with complaining about an unfair advantage (time) in a competition).

I find the whole situation unfair for us who are buying from where we will be playing, and for those stores as well. Many people order online to get a lower price, but now they get the highly anticipated product days before others? How can stores compete? With a big online retailer like amazon breaking street date, asmodee should allow stores to start selling early.

It’s a standard clause that you’ll find in agreements with distributors that is used to ensure fair trade at retail. I’m not sure FFG could directly have anything at all to do with the matter, but they could, if they knew who was responsible, pull their agreement with the distributor, for the distributor for not taking action say.

Breach of contract is not illegal per say, but it does leave the offending party open to legal action in civil court. In the US at least.

Simple solution, only allow folks that bought their stuff in your shop to win the store prize.

I agree, but one thing your FLGS offers that an online retailer CAN'T is a place to play. Which would be why many game stores are trying to include extras based around in store play for increasing revenues, such as snack bars or alcohol.

True, but I don't know any company that would agree to such terms as mentioned above. A fine of $2000 for each sale of a $25 product by an overzealous part-time employee is ... excessive. Generally these agreements provide recourse as I mentioned--the offending party might lose status as a preferred store for a time or be denied early purchases of some future product.

As an aside, I worked at Software, Etc. back in '96 during the N64 release. Someone at a Sears (I believe) broke the street date, so Nintendo allowed all stores to follow suit. As for Miniature Market, I have my tracking numbers in my inbox, but no ETA just yet. MO to TX isn't that far, though.

@Lickintoad agreed, plus there is a difference between shipping product out a few days early, especially if the intention was for it to arrive on the release day and it just took less time to arrive, and a store stocking their shelves with the product in advance of the sale date. This sort of thing happens fairly frequently, which is why stores that are part of D&D's adventurers league program and have a certain number if players show up regularly get to sell the book weeks in advance of the official release, to give them a leg up on the online retailers for once.

22nd already here, happy release day peepes.
