I'm building/painting my FLGS's demo Core Set, any questions?

By Javelin, in Star Wars: Legion

You can follow my FB page for photos. Happy to answer any questions you have. Most common I've gotten so far and answers:

Q: Is the plastic as soft as Runewars/IA?

A: No, it is harder than that. It is about the same as 4th Edition GW/40K. It is softer than the current 8th Edition GW/40K and much softer than X-Wing.

Q: Are the models on sprue?

A: No, they are pre-cut from the sprues and bagged.

Q: Are the models pose-able?

A: No, they are single-pose models with no options to individualize them. The speeder bikes and AT-RT might be the easiest to personalize, but the basic troops are stock-standard, and repeated (ie - the 2 squads are identical in every way for both sides).

Q: How well does the paint adhere?

A: So far, so good. They have responded well to primer and basecoats so far.

Overall, these are pretty good minis for the price point quality-wise, though definitely not up to the detail standards of the competition. The gameplay to me is going to be the make-or-break, and honestly I haven't even glanced at the rules in the box yet, too busy building and painting!

Do you have the ATST? I was thinking about magnetizing and I was curious how thick the plastic was on the head.

Any chance we could get a photo of an infantry model next to say a 40k Guardsman?

No, I do not have an AT-ST. We were only sent the Core Set for the demos.

I don't have a Guardsman, but I do have some older Dark Eldar and a Space Marine laying around. I'll get the photo up on my FB page today.

Edit: I measured the Stormtroopers for someone else, and the standing ones are 39mm from the bottom of the feet to the top of the helmet, and the Sergeant is 41mm.

What is the height of an assembled speeder bike and ATRT including base? Trying to build terrain to suit. How far is range 1?

Ranges are six inch increments. So Range 1 is 6", Range 2 is 12" etc.

I want to get some coin cases for the order tokens. What size are they? I have heard about 35mm, could you confirm please? Thanks!

Is that shooting range or movement range?

The core set AT-RT on base is approximately 3 7/8" tall

Shooting ranges, movement depends on model base since it is measured front to back.

Handy dandy chart I made reposted for convenience:

Base size| Speed 1| Speed 2 |Speed 3

27mm | 4.06 | 6.16 | 8.36

50mm | 4.97 | 7.07 | 9.27

70mm | 5.76 | 7.86 | 10.06

100mm | 6.94 | 9.04 | 11.24

All movements worked out in inches using measurements found on the forum

What ... is the airspeed velocity of an unladen speeder?

Corellian!

Poor @Caimheul1313. Aren’t you getting tired of having to post that chart every other day haha?

Would like to know this as well

At least I can find it easily in my activity, and it's just a copy paste at this point. :D

Since no one has replied I went by my FLGS, borrowed a tape measure, and grabbed an order token from the demo set. I can confirm that the order tokens are indeed 35mm in diameter

I'll jump on that as well. I took calipers to them, and they're definitely 35mm (plus or minus 0.15mm for any mechanical engineers out there).

Thanks!

When building Troopers, do you have enough figures to build normal troopers and 1 of each of the heavy weapons for each squad?

What im trying to work out is, if I build the 2 squads of troopers from the core and add +1 trooper for each squad. Do I then have spare figures to build 2 of each heavy weapon trooper or do you need to be selective in what you build?

im pretty sure the core box contains 33 minis so that would be: vader, luke, 2x speeders, atrt, 2x 7 stormies and 2x 7 rebels meaning you get 2 squads storm troopers and 2 squads rebels, each with 1 leader, 3 dudes, 1 extra dude for the card + both heavys.

There is a specific model for each Specialist included in every expansion, and the Corps expansions are basically packaged in the core set. The building instructions are in the Learn to play rule book and show how to assemble each model. Page 4 of the Learn to Play rules show you the models and how they are assembled without removing the arm pegs. The Corps units have a model for the unit commander, 4 models representing generic troopers, and one model for each specialist option, so 7 models even though only 6 can be fielded at a time.

This is a nice touch; It's a lot easier having a model for each special weapon, instead of having to magnetized all the various special weapons onto one model if you want to keep your options open (GW style).
