I afraid to use Harpoons because they always hurt me too.
So I pay one more point for Homers.
Is that a bad thing? Because I feel like it's a bad thing.

IMO, it depends on how you use them. Whenever I use harpoons I like to have a way to trigger them on the same round I fired them, even if its just something as simple as having multiple harpoon carriers at the same PS level. However, if you don't have a way to trigger them in the same round, and you have the extra point to spare, then sure, Homing missiles are probably a better choice.

Taking damage from your own attacks or actions is never fun.
Homers hit more easily than harpoons and still keep the TL. Iād say 1 more pt is worth not having something blow up in your face.
Depending on the carrier, Cruise Missiles are also a real alternatives. Vader loves them, and I think there's a real case to be made for QD with VI and AO with Cruise as well (Harpoons are better, but 1 point is 1 point). If you are really, truly afraid of hitting yourself (TBH, I've probably lost a game or two because my own harpoons hurt me), Concussion Missiles are a fair alternative if you can get another way to mod them (Focus works great, Guidance works ok). If you have a Torp slot, Plasma Torps are nice and cheap, but need two mods to be effective. Proton Torps work well if you have Guidance chips.
For my money, going to Concs instead of Harpoons isn't the worst choice, if you can have a Focus when you fire them. Then they are almost 4 guaranteed hits that won't hurt you. I used to run a triple Conc list with QD, Backdraft and Deathfire that was actually pretty strong. I had GC on both QD and BD, which works pretty well on Concs. Anyways, hope that helps!
Just don't worry about the damage, since if you're getting off the harpoons you are probably winning the damage race.

I've been flying this a lot and it seems to be good. Joust with QD and the Delta, and flank with Vynder. QD and the Delta wind up in range one a lot (which is great), but with no regen I really don't want them to get splash damage!
On Vynder, I only PTL if I'm feeling greedy, or know in the next turn I have a viable way out of the scrum with green maneuvers + SLAM... or basically that I know I'm in a safe spot next turn because Vynder can go down fast. So typically the only mod I have for the missile is the TL. Homers with TL averages 3 hits, and Concs with no mod averages 2.68.

I would say that, given your situation, if you aren't point strapped, Homers are still really good. TBH, I really wish FFG would issue a Range 2-3, 4 dice, no loss of TL attack at 4 points that did nothing else. I actually believe this is the baseline for a 4 point Missile, and should have been from day 1. I'd say they would even compete with Harpoons because some squads want to knife-fight and don't want that splash damage. Maybe the errata for Harpoons will just dump the condition card? I wouldn't mind it.

paying the extra point is the price of sportsmanship.
harpoons are OP garbage
Yeah, I'm currently playing around with Dalen in the Kimo and since he's teaming up with Fenn Rau, I steer clear of Harpoons. I've actually been getting good results from Concussion Missiles on him, but I'm still testing to see if it's an acceptable budget alternative to Homing Missiles.

If Harpoons had cost 5 points, it'd be a really interesting list-building choice to switch between them and Homing and Concussion (a not-unreasonable option for ships like LRS Nus, where the blank-to-hit combines well with a focus token). Heck, I have half a mind to run Deadeye/GChip Rhos with Proton Torpedos for the spicy crits along side a Kylo.
I am so close to swapping out Harpoons for Concussion as I seem to consistently do damage to my own ships rather than the enemy.
I prefer cruise myself.

Isn't half bad in a Fenn Meta, anyways.
