So what would artillery units fall under heavy or support and what kind of artillery would everyone like to see?
Artillery
We have mortars at range 4 for the ATST, I could see stationary artillery pieces in the game as an emplacement. It's possible that they could be scenario based as well, where artillery is inactive and teams get to fight over who owns it and gets to fire it per turn.
Artillery is likely to remain portrayed in Command cards, such as Leia's Coordinated Bombardment and Veer's Maximum Firepower. Given the mortar having a minimum Range of 4, any on board artillery's minimum range would make them best suited for "The Long March," and then pretty much just the first couple turns.
Well we also know there is a keyword called "Stationary" that wouldn't seem to apply to any currently previewed units - so perhaps that might have been a hint as to what's upcoming?
There's a few ways I think people have figured out this could work.
- As seen already in game with AT-ST mortar, weapons built in or attached via hardpoint to big vehicles can have arty-like abilities. They probably won't be dedicated but more optional.
- is what @Caimheul1313 said, as we've seen already a Command Card can have a very long ranged attack to represent "off-screen" firepower. Reminds me of the Mortar/Artillery commands from Valkyria Chronicles.
- As @Crabbok suggests "Stationary" is a unit keyword, so static mortars or other big guns might be placed at deployment and allow to fire at the "Beyond" distance so they have real coverage. It's also possible they might be able to "switch" to mobile as basically you pack them up and drag them around but can't shoot with them
- Battle cards like Conditions and even Objectives. We already have minefield, so why not some kind of "bombardment" condition? On set turns maybe all units not in cover get hit by artillery.
#3 would satisfy me for Droideika

It would also work for E-Web blasters or other such heavy equipment.

Yeah, but I’m not playing this until I have an Army of Unliving things.
I am tired of feeling bad when my stuff dies.
I don't think a Droideka is Stationary, I'd rather they switch from like, speed 1 to 3, but they maybe get different defense dice? Or are Shield cover?
FFG give me a Personal Shield equipment so I have rules for this.
(EDIT: Also, so I can get my dream - an Imperial Army of every guy from TFU, BFII and Dark Forces)

Just pretend their not living things. Your rebels aren't humans- they're HRD's (Human Replica Droids). It makes them different AND solves the problem!

Not really.
i mean, how else will I get to use this chip player with 60 different battle droid quotes on it?

No one can see under the helmets of Stormtroopers anyway....
Edit: Never mind, still don't get use out of the "Roger, Roger" app.

Reminds me of the TCW episodes where both the Commando Droids and Clone Troopers pulled thatvsane trick on each other...

Possibly the Hoth Turrets when we deploy?

I think anything from Hoth is certainly possible, considering we are getting Snowtroopers and Veers.
Personally, I want Commando Hutts with Rocket Launchers - they might be Stationary, but because of laziness.
Nah we'll just crib from the RPG. Speed 1, you can only make one movement action a turn. I don't even remember what that racial trait was called. Corpulent maybe?
Never been a fan of on the table artillery in wargames.
Who needs arty when you have Grakkus?
”the most dangerous thing in Grakkus’ arena, is Grakkus”
Artillery isn't really a Star Wars"thing." Makes it too hard to be heroic.

Based on their behaviour it is quite clear that battle droids (aside from maybe in the Phantom menace) in Star Wars are thinking and feeling beings. What also makes it worse is there was no apparent reason they needed to be made this way. They could have made them unfeeling automatons and decided they wanted them to be sentient beings. Probably the same someone who put pain receivers on the bottom of GONK droids' feet just so they could be tortured.
Basically: Everything about droids in Star Wars is troublesome... at least your living humans chose to join up.
Edited by borithanThis could be an interesting category of choices.
Clone Walker Tanks, Droid missile bots, a card that allows an orbital ship to bombard an enemy unit.
INCOMING!

It is an interesting thing. Leia and Veers have those cards.
Well...there ya go! LOL!

I don't know about that. Take the Battle of Hoth for example. The turrets and manned guns make their way into all kinds of things- RPG's, video games, even other Star Wars minis games. I actually have one of the little rebel cannon minis. It wouldn't be out of place for them to make some stationary weaponry like that. To me, they seem pretty iconic for Star Wars, at least that battle- the AT-AT's and AT-ST's versus the Rebel Snowspeeders and their ground cannons.
I'm talking about indirect fire shelling.
