Honestly? Quad TLT because it can't do crits and essentially negates his ability. This isn't a thread for honesty, though, so... Counter jank with MOAR JANK

It's Roark and Fenn, you need PS12 against Leebo

I’m in awe! I’m casting aside my hipsterish credentials for a competetive list (sellout, I know), though my Firesprays will certainly make an appearance in the Hanger Bay. The long blonde hair and plaited beard will give me away ![]()

It has been and very much still is a thing.
I don't mind it personally but I can see why others do.
If you go back and review tournament results vs the archetypes that made the cut - (and then note the upgrades/ships that makes the list tick and which Wave they came in), + compare with the release dates.
****, the current #1 archetype includes the Sheathipede.. and the previous one includes the Scurgg, which was (shockingly!), released in the previous Wave...
And the one before that? That's right, Sabine's TIE (e.g. Fairship Rebels).
The one before that? Guess what?!
Paratanni.
And it goes way back, all the way to the release of the Falcon.

You‘re right. One other way to understand the question/statement is whether you are forced to pay to win. If understood that way, @DekoPuma certainly has a point. There were often competing squads that used minor improvements from a new expansion but did not essentially change. Heck, DashMiranda is still playing at the top and has been for what, two years now? Or Palpaces?
People who learned to play these squads very well some years ago can still win tournaments at high levels. In that sense the game is not pay to win. But it offers that option.

It is more likely that good players have simply stopped coming to the forums as often. Good players are still beating the pants off the rest of us and there are plenty of the rest of us for them to beat. That's a lot of pants.

They all started podcasts, blogs, cancer chats, and discords to discuss the game at a high level. The forums became an unwelcoming space for highly competitive discussion. Too many trolls pop into threads and blabber on about epic, or wanting to fly punishers, or anything else off topic.

Now you're trolling. Had a good point and dragged it way off. Indeed, way too many trolls, but they don't need to go off topic to make a thread poisonous.
Not trolling, thats been my experience. I've tried to comment on competitive threads just to have people crash in and give their opinions about the meta game when they never play outside of their kitchen tables.
I love this game because it scales well for fun, thematic play and also works really well as a high tournament game. Both attitudes are great to have, but they get confused on the forums too much.

Not denying there are trolls that crash competitive threads with pointless off topic things. Your point that there are too many trolls seeking to enrage people is accurate. I think you over specified to a particular style of trolling that triggers you, is all.
There's plenty trolls for all... ![]()

Yeah a lot of our players have moved on, they like me don't like the tournament sense anymore, to many.....well.....lets just a lot of us are "getting to old for their s**t" good player? Me yeah right I fly what I like have fun and laugh when I play, if I can do that I'm a happy camper... ![]()

Unfortunately I have to agree. There are podcast chats and other areas where high level play is discussed, and for me it’s this very reason why. Do we all like every competitive meta or every meta list? Heck no. But if you play competitively, it’s there whether you like it or not, and if it’s not going away immediately you’d better know how to deal with it.
Forum discussions have a bad tendency to be derailed into how the game is in an awful state and it’s unplayable and dying. That’s no good if you’re trying to figure out how to beat the meta boogeyman, so eventually you just find better avenues for it.
My activity on forums/reddit is primarily community-building focused now, in addition to answering questions from newer players about strategies. That’s about it. It’s not that I don’t want to share competitive play thoughts and list building ideas with the entire community, it’s just that it often feels like a waste of time.
The best players are actually playing in their spare time instead of talking about it here.
Also, there is way too much salt in this forum.... the toxicity kills it a lot. I rarely venture into a thread anymore - only the epic section and then a little out here in the main topics dump.
I’d consider myself an OK player.... I play competitive tournament games, with strong lists, and place acceptably in local events such as my Regionals, etc. I’m going to Adepticon for System Open. But at the same time, I can also put on a different hat (metaphorically) and highly enjoy epic games or HotAC. They all do something different that I enjoy. Does this mean I’m not the best tournament player I could be, because I play other things too? Maybe. But I’m ok with where I’m at, good but not great.
I'm way way way less motivated to play X-Wing because I found a game that I find way more fun and varied: Imperial Assault, also by FFG. 4 of us so far, out of 12ish, in the Xwing group have converted to it. We still play Xwing from time to time but much much less than before. I even decided to be Marshall for an Xwing Regional instead of playing, but I went to 2 IA Regionals so far and going to Nationals next week in Toronto.

No, it is not a thing and never has been. The first comment I replied to says new ships are auto win, which is stupid hyperbole that does nothing helpful.
New ships and upgrades provide new options, and players figure out how to use them to make old builds better.

Not only ships, you may want to re-read my original post.
And I just gave you the evidence to the contrary up-thread as well. Sorry, but the "stupid hyperbole" appears to be entirely coming from you.

It's extremely hyperbolic and factually untrue.
Power creep is real. Auto-win is not.
The evidence you provided supports power creep, you have not provided any evidence that "auto-win" is real because there is none to present.
The hyperbole is entirely yours.
You must have missed the part where my first comment is that "auto win" is not and never has been a thing. I think you are arguing in agreement with me.

If so, yes, I am agreeing with you. I thought I made that clear by quoting and refuting @Keffisch's points.
You will find a ton of talented and strong players over in Vassal League!
I'm sorry @Sekac, I wasn't paying close enough attention and I was thinking that post was by the other guy.
Sorry about that.
No worries

Yeah I remember this place when it was all about strategy and tactics. The real tech was always over on Team Covenant’s Forum though. Sadly their site redesign killed that years ago.
