Harpooned - Fleeing?

By emeraldbeacon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hypothetical situation. My ship is forced to flee the battlefield, with the Harpooned condition card assigned. In this case, let's say my opponent has me ionized, and there's simply no way out. However, there is an enemy ship nearby, within Range 1 of my final position. The question is: does the Harpoon condition go off, or do I flee first?

(please forgive the overly simple artwork, but it seemed to be the easiest way to explain what I'm getting at)

You’re considered destroyed when you flee, so I’d imagined, like dead man’s switch, you’d measure with whatever was left of your ship in the board then remove it

You just flee. The ship is considered destroyed for the purpose of calculating final scores but it is not actually destroyed in the game sense. So, the harpoons, zey do nothink!

That's my interpretation. Conversely, if I fly ENTIRELY off the battlefield (say my opponent tractor beam boosts me first, then my maneuver launches me into oblivion), then there's no part of my base in play, and Harpooned doesn't have any effect.

I think that it is destroyed in the game sense, actually...

Thinking about it more; it wouldn’t surprise me if it does work like DMS. But at the moment, since it’s a new condition, we’re reliant on precedent and an eventually FAQ from FFG.

It only triggers if part of the ship remains on the mat. It is similar how Dead Man's Switch is used.

In the FAQ:

"If a ship with Dead Man's Switch flees the battlefield, Dead Man's Switch's ability resolves before the ship is removed, but is measuring only from the portion of the ship that is inside the play area. If the entirety of the ship is outside the play area, the ability does not affect other ships."

It also similar to bombs... the ability can only affect other ships if part of the base is left n the mat before removing the ship/token.
