Genesys Dice (app) vs Star Wars Dice

By MasterDinadan2, in Genesys

I already have the Star Wars dice app. Aside from the flavor, is there any reason to pick up the genesys dice app?

Does it have features that Star Wars dice does not have?

I hate to spend 5 dollars on it if it is basically just a re-skin of the Star Wars dice (and with fewer dice options available too!)

I believe it's pretty much the same as the Star Wars app, but I've never used either to be honest. In person, I just use real dice, and the apps aren't terribly useful for online games.

I really wish they'd add some sort of multiplayer mode to the app so a group can use it to roll dice for an online game without having to use another website or finicky scripts such as those on roll20.

That would be awesome, it’s not like they don’t already have a system of user accounts on their back end already.

I'd like a multiplayer mode myself.

The Star Wars app has an additional feature of being able to save commonly used dice pools for easy use that the Genesys app does not seem to have. Unless I'm a dummy and haven't found it on the Genesys app (this scenario is plausible and probably more likely than I'd prefer to admit).

@FFGDerek to who or where would we send this kind of feedback about the dice app?

If they'd add this feature I'd buy it so fast and then proceed to annoy my friends into following suit.

It might not have been possible with the Lucasfilm contract but Genesys should be open season for them to do what they want.

It does indeed have that functionality. Once you have your dice pool set, click beautiful gold plus sign in the bottom left-hand corner of the app. That will bring up a menu that will allow you to name a preset and save it.

I have both apps. The reason to get one when you have the other is if you don't like translating the symbols in your head. Both have presets. If you don't really want to pay for it and have an Android, sign up for Google Opinion Rewards. You'll get Google Play credit for answering questions. Takes about a week or two to earn enough.

According to the app link in the Google App Store, it's

That's for the Star Wars app, however. At least, this is the only one I could find after a quick search.

I suspected I was being obtuse about it. Thank you!

I have both.

The Genesys dice app is, imo, much cleaner and its UI more convenient to use.

GNS app > SWRP app.

By far.

OTOH, the radial menu on the Star Wars app lets me sort of 'flick' my finger along the screen upwards to roll the dice. I like that user interaction a lot.
